DH lips turning blue

GoBackToPartyCity · 02/10/2020 20:08

In the last week DH’s lips have turned blue. There’s been no ‘trigger’ for it. The first time we were having a drink at the pub and he’s just at work tonight.

Anyone had this before? He’s a relatively fit 35 year old with no known health problems.

P.s....I have told him to book a doctor’s appointment.

@Veryhungrycaterpillar84

Blue lips are a sign of peripheral cyanosis, usually just poor circulation. Blue tongue is a sign of central cyanosis which is far more serious. It does need a review by a medical professional but if he’s otherwise well then it’s not urgent.
Not necessarily, blue lips can be present as the first signs of a serious asthma attack. Saying it's not urgent when you can't see the person is potentially incredibly dangerous and downright irresponsible.

I understand his fear of bloods. I've only had them once and passed out four times and went into hypertension so is my fear.

It's so hard, but better than dying.

HollowTalk · 02/10/2020 21:47

Tell him to read this. Hope he's OK.

Janevaljane · 02/10/2020 21:48

My friend has this and its bad circulation, apparently. I wouldn't panic if he's otherwise well (id definitely go to the gp asap but wouldn't panic).

whatsleep · 02/10/2020 21:52

Sounds like a covid test might be wise, if only to rule it out.

klinghoffer · 02/10/2020 21:55

I don't want to add to your stress but when I had COVID in March, I had blue lips.

Xenia · 02/10/2020 21:57

I do wonder if you shouldn't drive him to A&E actually.

LUZON · 02/10/2020 21:58

.

Janevaljane · 02/10/2020 21:58

I also had blue lips when I had a bad covid like flu back in February, but I was also obviously very unwell,.wheezing, coughing etc.

OnNaturesCourse · 02/10/2020 21:59

My DC had this last year, but did have a cough/cold on top of it. She had low oxygen due to the cough / cold. I now suspect she had covid, but it was way before it was known about widely. I had similar symptoms around the same time, but my lips didn't turn blue.

TenShortStories · 02/10/2020 22:03

Glad to hear he's called 111.

imissthesouth · 02/10/2020 22:05

Glad he's got medical attention, can be a sign of heart issues.

Thisisnotnormal69 · 02/10/2020 22:07

Glad he’s called 111 Smile

HotToCold · 02/10/2020 22:08

You can have covid without knowing, have very low oxygen for awhile, without knowing and then become very sick, very quick

Medical attention now

MJMG2015 · 02/10/2020 22:09

@Xenia

I do wonder if you shouldn't drive him to A&E actually.
Fabulous idea when he could have COVID 🙄

Hope 111 send someone out to see him.

HotToCold · 02/10/2020 22:09

Do not put your trust in a app on your phone to determine what his oxygen levels are

GoBackToPartyCity · 02/10/2020 22:10

He’s been on the phone to 111 and a clinician is going to call him back.

I am glad @GoBackToPartyCity I had a terror of needles etc. before I had children I understand how he feels.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 02/10/2020 22:18

Gosh - must get him seen tonight. Do not be fobbed off!

Mmn654123 · 02/10/2020 22:39

Tell him he can ask the doctors to prescribe Emla cream before taking bloods if he’s very worried. That way he won’t feel the bloods being taken. But he needs assessment.

viques · 02/10/2020 22:40

I read an article in the Guardian this week about Michael Rosen talking about his experience of Covid. When he was taken ill they discovered that he was desperately low on oxygen, below 60, and it was only his wife insisting that he was taken to hospital ( where he was in a coma for weeks) that probably saved his life.

When did your OH last actually have an injection/blood work done? I had to have some innoculations before travelling a couple of years ago and was shaking at the thought, but the needles they use are so tiny these days I never even felt them, I just felt shame at my wussy behaviour.

viques · 02/10/2020 22:45

Check his fingernails as well as his lips, do they look their normal colour or have they got a blue tinge too.

Wheytaminute · 02/10/2020 22:50

Glad he's trying to get advice OP

I am no doctor but blue lips for no reason isn't normal.

Hope he gets seen soon and a is well.

GoBackToPartyCity · 02/10/2020 22:54

Thanks everyone! We’re still waiting for a call back. His fingernails are all normal, as was everything else apart from looking like he’d been drinking a blue slush puppy!
We’ve been together 11 years and I don’t think he’s been in contact with a needle in that time. He can’t even look at them and had to leave the room when I was being induced with DS.

Hope all is ok! Let us know what the 111 clinician says Flowers
