DH lips turning blue

GoBackToPartyCity · 02/10/2020 20:08

In the last week DH’s lips have turned blue. There’s been no ‘trigger’ for it. The first time we were having a drink at the pub and he’s just at work tonight.

Anyone had this before? He’s a relatively fit 35 year old with no known health problems.

P.s....I have told him to book a doctor’s appointment.

Do you have him well insured?

If not call 111

WinifredSanderson · 02/10/2020 21:07

Another one here with Reynauds.. fingers, toes and lips turn blue and it doesn't even have to be that cold!

GoBackToPartyCity · 02/10/2020 21:08

He’s had another bollocking and is on his way home.
Nope, no raynauds! I’ll download one of those oximeter apps and give it a go when he’s home.

I also get the blue lips and feet thing when I get cold. It doesnt even have to be that cold! If I have a pedicure and have bare feet not moving about they usually go grey!
Also the blue lips! I tend to find its if im cold but not moving rather than cold but moving about.
Ive put it down to crap circulation as im otherwise healthy.
Agree with others though. Worth checking out if its a new thing.

Eckhart · 02/10/2020 21:12

It's a thread full of smurfs.

I'm sure he'll be ok, OP.

MJMG2015 · 02/10/2020 21:13

Do you have neighbours phone numbers? If you do, ring around and see if you can borrow an oximeter. The phone ones aren't great.

As soon as he's home, call 119/111. Ignore any protests!!

@Eckhart
I am the same, it used to be worse years ago, but I still get blue lips/nails when I am very cold. For me, it is clear that is the trigger, and once I warmed up it returns to normal, perfectly normal for me. I also feel like I need to balance this out.

However, if it something completely new and there isn't any clear trigger, I will have that checked out.

Antibles · 02/10/2020 21:18

Covid!

OP the first time it happened I was scared stiff, I'd never even heard of reynauds. You don't know you have it until it happens the first time ifswim, so it's something to consider when he does see the doc. Hopefully NOT Covid!!

LittleMsM · 02/10/2020 21:24

May want to double check he hasn't got a leaky biro!

If not that and new, is definitely worth getting checked - happy hypoxia?

YukoandHiro · 02/10/2020 21:25

Get him seen tonight OP, and let us know what happens

Seeingadistance · 02/10/2020 21:26

FFS!

The OP has said this is new - in the past week! Stories about long histories of blue extremities are irrelevant.

He needs to get medical attention as soon as possible.

Jumpingkangeroo · 02/10/2020 21:27

@IseeIsee

I've seen a few threads from women with men who are clearly ill and refuse help for fear of this and that. The women have to pander to them even though the men are parents and should be putting their child first. Blue lips could be Covid. He could be spreading it all over the place. Selfish and entitled. Probably a man child. Good luck OP.
Grin someone is bored tonight.
Alternista · 02/10/2020 21:29

He needs to be seen urgently. This is a not uncommon Covid complication and if it is; he will be sicker than he’s currently presenting. Please don’t fuck about.

MissConductUS · 02/10/2020 21:32

Lots of covid patients present with this. Get him to A&E.

GoBackToPartyCity · 02/10/2020 21:34

He’s home now. He does catasrophise a bit so when he’s told me he’s got blue lips and I’ve actually seen them...this is what he means. It’s the outer of edges of his bottom lip.

I understand exactly where your DH is coming from. I'm terrified of needles and would be exactly the same, I won't go to the doctors if I can help it in case they suggest blood tests.

I hope your DH is ok

MJMG2015 · 02/10/2020 21:37

He needs to be seen. Tonight.

PestymcPestFace · 02/10/2020 21:38

Bit cold, bluish lips, all better 20 mins later: - fine

New thing:- still going two hours later, please call 111

doingnicely · 02/10/2020 21:40

In discussions with friends I know of three children this year who have had notably blue lips for a few days, including one of my own. No other illness symptoms, nothing serious happened. It could be coronavirus or another virus. Not a serious oxygen deficit, looks very like when you get chilly but my child insisted they didn't feel at all ill or remotely cold! Went away after a few days no harm done. I hope it is the same for your dh op.

bettsbattenburg · 02/10/2020 21:42

www.nhs.uk/conditions/blue-skin-or-lips-cyanosis/
We had to call 999 when my DC had blue lips, an ambulance was sent and it saved their life.

Call 999 or go to A&E if:

your or your child's lips, tongue, face or skin suddenly turn blue

You or your child may also have:

difficulty breathing
chest pain

These are signs of a serious medical problem.

GoBackToPartyCity · 02/10/2020 21:42

It’s gone now...back to normal. He’s on the phone to 111 anyway.

OP posts:
Veryhungrycaterpillar84 · 02/10/2020 21:42

Blue lips are a sign of peripheral cyanosis, usually just poor circulation. Blue tongue is a sign of central cyanosis which is far more serious. It does need a review by a medical professional but if he’s otherwise well then it’s not urgent.
