What causes that single stray crinkled wiry hair when the rest the hair on your head is smooth and straight?!

Exactly that....anyone know? Only pattern I have is that it happens after a stressful event, is it just stress?!

Oooh, good question OP! I also want to know the answer.

BameChange123 · 03/10/2020 05:22

Me too!

chocolatespiders · 03/10/2020 05:24

Me too.. Mine is almost like a thick nylon thread.

noodlezoodle · 03/10/2020 05:30

They're practicing for when they go wiry AND grey.

NotExactlyMrsCurrentAffairs · 03/10/2020 06:18

I have naturally blonde hair but occasionally find a single black strand, a really thick one too yet my hair is fine.

Caelano · 03/10/2020 12:05

@chocolatespiders yes, I have a few and they’re a totally different consistency and feel like a man-made fibre, not real hair. Like doll’s hair

Tangfastica · 03/10/2020 13:22

@noodlezoodle I have a few grey hairs but their not wiry Hmm

@Tangfastica I have some normal grey and some wiry grey. The wiry ones are much more annoying then the normal ones! No idea what they think they're doing or where they come from.

NameAChange · 04/10/2020 09:35

You only need to worry when they start to appear like your normal hair. The wiry ones can be pulled out Grin.

NameAChange · 04/10/2020 09:36

@NotExactlyMrsCurrentAffairs that's fascinating.

spiderbride · 04/10/2020 09:41

Some medications or auto immune conditions can do this - cause a hair or a patch of hair to start growing out wiry. The only explanation I have ever heard is "damage to the follicles" which doesn't tell me much but oh well!

Thistledew · 04/10/2020 09:50

My hair is slowly turning from straight and blond to brown and curly. I currently have a frizzy dark halo over my head at all times. I had a few dark hairs prior to two pregnancies, but the growth of more brown hair has definitely been brought about by pregnancy hormones.

Heatherjayne1972 · 04/10/2020 09:57

It’s the follicles
My friend had poker straight hair until she lost it to chemo
When it grew back it was curly

BameChange123 · 04/10/2020 12:02

I have some truly curly wiry hairs that are grey (Same as my dad, who called them wiggy wormies!! 😯). Have straight fine hair reckon they are some sort of genetic aging process, serious my OH didn't believe the evidence was mine til I showed him one still attached to my head!

BameChange123 · 04/10/2020 12:03

I do have an week-long disease and on.lots of meds - thanks dad!😊

BameChange123 · 04/10/2020 12:05

Autocorrected Auto-Immune disease! Not weekly !
