I’m having cataract surgery for both eyes at 59. I’m being recommended -2 monofocal in the left eye to give me good reading and middle distance. ( I can’t have multi focal) I may need to have the same in both as my left eye was damaged and we don’t know how good it will be.

What did you have and how do you feel about it? I gather typically it’ll end up between -1.75 and -2.25 depending on how my eyes react after the op.

I’ve only just been told that I’ll lose all the flexibility I have at the moment so this will only give me really good vision at one distance. What does this really feel like? Will I be able to play table tennis?

Need to decide tomorrow and feeling nervous so all advice very welcome.

I am 39 and had my second cataract surgery a week ago today and it has changed my life. I have been very short sighted since childhood and started struggling with double vision in one eye and then triple in the other - caused by the tiniest of cataracts. I have had monofocal lenses in both eyes. I do now need reading glasses which is a bit strange. However I now have 20/20 distance vision in the first eye; and I can see as well with the eye I have just had done - but haven't had my post op test yet. I have found the change amazing and have not struggled with adjusting to it at all.
