Insect bites - stopping the itch

After some Ill advised pruning sessions in the garden a day or so ago I now have multiple large insect bites on my lower legs. I have the urge to scratch until I get down to bone - but just about maintaining the ability not to.

I'm trying hydrocortisone cream and anti histamine tablets which just take the edge off. Any one got any other ideas to help stop the maddening itch?

Itching caused by Insect bites are actually listed on the packaging as something it helps to treat

Antihistamine tablet. If you don't have any in, ibuprofen will help til you get some. If you've scratched, tiger balm will help kill the itch - the heat I think but also the balm helps form a seal to prevent infection. If you haven't scratched, put a tea spoon in your tea or boiling water and press on the bite. Hot as you can bear. I am a veteran of bites and react super badly.
