Help is there anything I else I can give dd, crying in pain

She went to drs on Monday with ulcers in mouth got some cream and numbing spray. I asked if it could be chicken pox but dr said no. Looks like it is as she has spots on body as well but more ulcers (chicken pox?) in her mouth as well. 2 large ones on the side of her tongue, some on roof of mouth, sides of mouth all over really

She's not eating as it hurts and barely drinking anything.

Should I call the drs again? I've been giving calpol and nurofen and don't think I can give anymore for another 45 mins.

She's in a lot of pain but the chicken pox is mild, just a few small spots like ds2 had. What should I do?

Have parents evening tonight as well at 6.10, didn't want to miss it but if I have to take her to the drs then I will. Of course if she needs to go then I'll take her.

where are the spots on her body?

Hand foot and mouth causes very painful ulcers - I remember ice cream helped with them. There were also blisters on her hands , feet, and bottom.

littleolwinedrinkerme · 09/10/2007 16:52

Oh bless her sounds really painful. Why not call NHS direct and see if they can advise anything else to help. Good luck.

ToadieG1 · 09/10/2007 16:54

Hmm she's not really been anyway to get foot and mouth but she does have spots on her hands, around bum, legs, some on feet, some on her stomach and a couple on her face too, just small though.

Ds1 hasn't caught anything yet though.

Thanks, I'll see what they say then.

anbesol is pretty good stuff. You can get a liquid form for young children.

Give her some piriton syrup as well for the other spots.

belgo · 09/10/2007 16:55

you catch hand foot and mouth from other children, it's a child hood disease and nothing to do with 'foot and mouth ' the cow's disease

LucyJones · 09/10/2007 16:56

how old is she?
If still drinking bottles of milk i wouldn't worry too much about not eating.
Maybe yoghurt?

ToadieG1 · 09/10/2007 16:56

Can I buy that over the counter?

Ahh I see. Chicken pox is going round the school though and is what ds1 had so I think it's likely to be chicken pox she has though.

She's 5. Won't drink milk and yoghurts as they both hurt.

ice cream might help.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 09/10/2007 17:01

Yes you can - both of them.

Go speak to a chemist anyway - they might know of something better to use.

Mouth ulcers suck at the best of times.

ToadieG1 · 09/10/2007 17:02

Tried ice cream, she cried with that too

Thanks VVV will pop down the chemist and ask. NHS direct should call back within 30 mins or so as well. Luckily my parents are here

it sounds very painful.

DoctorFrankenSquonk · 09/10/2007 17:09

would bonjela help with the spots in her mouth?

ToadieG1 · 09/10/2007 17:22

Tried bongela too. Off the phone from nhs direct and she said it could be chickne pox (most likely as ds2 had it), hand, foot and mouth and maybe a throat infection. THey said to call gp so I've just done than and am waiting for a call back. THey also said she sounds dehyrated so will have to see what teh gp suggests. The nurse said they maybe able to prescirbe something else for her. Thanks all.

This will sound wierd but I always put lavender essential oil on mouth ulcers and it really kills the pain. It may be hard to get it on them if they are in an awkward position but if you soak a cotton bud till its dripping will lavender oil and then drip it on then it could work.

ToadieG1 · 09/10/2007 18:59

Ok saw gp, she thinks hand, foot and mouth. Typing on handed excuse errors. Dh gone tesco t oo get prescription I made parents evening just while dd at home with my parents watching them.

Hopefuky this nre cream will work, suppoe to numb her mouth. Ds2 prob had the same thing and not chicken pox. Thanks all

glad you've got a diagnosis. My dd1 had this, and it lasted three nights, and I remember she cried a lot especially at night as it's very painful.
