NHS GP referral system-HELP!!

Hi, would be grateful for some advice.
My ds (4) is being monitored by a consultant at Kingston hospital (and has been since Dec 07.) We've moved recently and have been told by same consultant that he may need a CT scan-but as we've moved the GP may not refer us to Kingston?!

I've just spoken to our new GP surgery who initially said "no, we won't refer you there" but after I'd explained they said that they could approach the PCT to "fund us going outside their region"
Does anyone know if there's anything else we can do to ensure ds gets seen at the same hospital-being ill makes him very very anxious and he's only just come through a period of being absolutely terrified of going for his tests.

I would query this as I thought that legally now you had to be given the choice of where to go?

I know it has a lot to do with funding etc but I thought things had changed?

Hopefully someone will come along who knows a bit more....

If you and your GP decide that you need to see a specialist, you can now choose where and when you see the specialist from a list of hospitals or clinics. This will include several local hospitals, NHS foundation trust hospitals across the country and a growing number of independent sector treatment centres and hospitals that have been contracted from the private sector to provide services to NHS patients. You can choose according to what matters most to you: waiting lists, MRSA rates, bus routes, or many other criteria.

Over the next few months more and more hospitals will be added to the list of choices until, by April 2008, you will be able to choose from any hospital that meets the standards set by the NHS.
