Really Sore Throat

Was just wondering if anyone had any advice regarding my ever so painful throat. Have tried all the usual pain relief methods but still in discomfort. Have almost totally lost my voice now (DH thinks this is marvelous!!!) Anyone know of anything to soothe it?

have you seen the doctor in case it's an infection?

SoMuchToBats · 07/10/2007 22:45

Have you tried Dequacaine lozenges? They have a kind of local anaesthetic numbing effect, and are the only thing that really help me.

melsy · 07/10/2007 22:46

Sounds like you may have laryngitis. Think you need to get to gp to make sure you dont need antibiotics and if you dont like them, may be a homeopathic remedy ? In the meantime , spponsful of manuka honey and icy drinks or sorbet has been recomneded for inflammation.

Haven't seen doc yet but will probably go tomorrow. Had a terrible nights sleep last night and was hoping for some relief tonight. Its going right up into my ears!! I'm pathetic - its only a sore throat

Gargle with dissolvable aspirin...take paracetamol and/or ibuprofen...throat lozenges...steam inhalation...see GP if not resolving.

swampster · 07/10/2007 22:48

Try gargling soluble paracetamol (swallow it too) or really hot, REALLY salty water (foul, don't swallow that).

rosealbie · 07/10/2007 22:49

Have you got any disolvable paracetamol? When i had a really sore throat and couldn't swallow gargling with this really helped. I did need antibiotics though to clear it.

elliemac · 07/10/2007 22:49

Thanks for the advice! I don't like this not talking business. I do like a natter - its driving me crazy.

No you're not pathetic - I felt like that a couple of nights ago. I had loads ofhot drinks, Dequacaine lozenges and Cocodamol - still felt crap! But I'm feeling better now.

PodPast · 07/10/2007 22:51

tyrozets are antiseptic, antibiotic, anaesthetic combined. they help when i get agony throats.

SoMuchToBats · 07/10/2007 22:52

OOh, they sound good, PodPast.

elliemac · 07/10/2007 22:52

I reckon i could get some work out of this - there must be some call for a husky voiced woman. Like a perfume ad or something!

There's loads of tonsillitus going round by us at the moment.

Hope you feel better soon

SoMuchToBats · 07/10/2007 22:54

I was like that the other night - I had to phone up a woman who had bought something from me on ebay and wanted to collect it. She must have thought I was a bit strange!

elliemac · 07/10/2007 22:57

Its the little squeaks that are annoying. Had to ask for something in Tescos earlier and no words came out - Looked a bit of a you know what! Thought i'd come on here for a chat. Was getting bored sitting quietly.

Know what you mean - I'm better than I was a couple of days ago, but still would struggle with a long conversation. A virtual one is much easier. But I will have to go soon, to give ds his antibiotic (for ear infection - we are all infected in this house!) and try to have not too late a night!

elliemac · 07/10/2007 23:02

I think i'm going to go try and get some sleep. Have got some girlie TV that i recorded earlier to watch. Ear infections - Ouch!!!!

SoMuchToBats · 07/10/2007 23:04

Yes, ds woke up at 10pm last Monday in lots of pain - neede Calpol and Nurofen, but is now on antibiotic and feeling fine. Ah, well, hope you are soon feeling better!

elliemac · 07/10/2007 23:05

Thanks! Hope you're all feeling better soon too.
