Black spot on gum. Pic attached . Cancer???

Hi all
Noticed a black / blue spot on my gum last week. No idea how long it’s been there. It doesn’t hurt , I haven’t had any dental treatment in ages , I haven’t had a knock or bump to the face or gums. In short there’s no reason for it to be there and I wouldn’t know it was there if I hadn’t pulled my lip down and spotted it by chance.

Have googled (I know I know ) and things like mouth cancer are coming up.

Have attached a pic. Sorry it’s not great and yes my teeth need whitening.

Can anyone advise whether I should get it looked at ASAP. I am worried

It'll most likely be blood under the skin. Ring the dentist tout your mind at rest.

Have you had any fillings in that area in the past? I have a black area on my gum like that and it’s an amalgam tattoo.

I also think a little blood under the skin. I’ve had this before, no idea how long it had been there.. went to the GP, they said keep an eye on it and if still there in two weeks to go back. It went so never needed to go back. I think you’ll find the same happens to you! X

My dd had one and the dentist saw her straight away. It was actually a bit of leaf (herb/salad) and it worked its way out. She knew by looking it was likely to be something like that

How did it get in?!

I think it was just on her tooth and somehow the edge caught under the gum and it worked its way further up, so weird I know!

Hiya, did you ever find out what it was? I’m waiting for a dentist appointment on the 29th March but im so anxious until then

I've had one of these for years and years, almost in exact same place as yours. A dark blue looks like a bruise. Been to the dentist loads of times and they never mention it. I assume it's harmless.

Any updates?
