Is it really as painful as I've been told?

I had them removed at 23. Hurt for a few days and then I was fine. ☺️

I had mine out a couple of years ago (I'm 40). It wasn't the most fun I've ever had but it definitely wasn't as bad as the horror stories I read online beforehand! Make sure you keep up with painkillers for the first week or so and I also made sure I drank plenty - it was more sore if I let my mouth dry out at all.

At 23, was really painful for a week or so. But I was wiped out for three weeks. Was only supposed to be off work for two but was signed off for an extra week.

I guess everyone is different, which doesn't help you!

Had mine out at 18 was pretty sore for a few days and then they got infected which was horrible.

Only for a few days - but so worth it for an end to tonsillitis. Don’t do as I did and go to a comedy show six days after they come out. Throat was raw! Gargling soluble aspirin worked for me.

Aged 22. Not gonna lie.... It was all rather dreadful, but I couldn't take codeine so was reliant on just anti-inflammatories which were useless.

Eat plenty of crunchy things like toast, crisps etc to scratch your throat.

Avoid fresh tomatoes and vinegar (inc in salad dressing) - BIG mistake on my part.

I needed every day of the projected two week recovery period. No way I could have worked.

I had mine out at 30 it was a pretty painful recovery but I feel amazing and have never looked back after years of feeling run down so it is well worth it!

Grapesoda7 · 08/09/2020 20:58

I had mine out as an adult, it was more painful than I was expecting, especially in my ears. I needed the full two weeks to recover properly.

It was definatly worth having done though. Constant tonsiltus is horrible.

DH had his out at 32 and said it hurt and moaned a lot but he hasn't been through childbirth...

But he says it was definitely worth it as he had tonsil stones and would suffer with really bad breath.
