Severe Pain after root canal retreatment

Hi

I had an old root canal retreated at the weekend, and I have been in absolute agony since the LA wore off. Even pain killers will not stop this pain. I called the dentist, and it was a specialist endodontist who carried out this procedure. They have prescribed some antibiotics but I'm really worried a nerve has been damaged. My whole face down to my jaw hurts.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? The real joke is I couldn't get treatment on the NHS so have paid 850 to be in this much pain. I'm trying to stop crying in front of the children bit I am in absolute agony!

God OP I’m very sorry to hear this! When will they see you again?

Get some OTC codamol and take it with ibuprofen ( if medically ok to take) then get some orajel to numb the gum. Should do the job.

I had pain with mine, had it done about 6 weeks ago. It didn’t settle, even after antibiotics, so 4 weeks ago I had the tooth out. So glad I did.
Yours may settle down but you definitely need to go back if you’re still in pain in a few days OP. Agree that Orajel is a good quick fix for the pain.
There seems to be so many of us with teeth problems since lockdown!!
