Does anyone else get headache and nausea as a side effect of piriton?

Never had to take it before, but have a very bad insect bite and was given it by the pharmacist. Took 3 tablets over 11 hours and have a blinding headache, feel really nauseous, and generally not great (insect bite much better though!).

I googled side effects, though these didn’t seem common.

Wondering if I have some other bug (hello Covid paranoia!) or if it’s (hopefully!!) just the antihistamines!

Three doses in a day would floor me. One lot is enough to send me into a deep sleep. Yet DD has chicken pox and has been having a couple of doses a day and not napped at all.

It just seems to be one of those drugs that some people are very sensitive to and others aren't.

I loathe the stuff. Makes me bad tempered and fuzzy. It's widely acknowledged as one of the anti histamines with the most side effects I believe. Try a different one.

Oh crikey! Relieved that it’s likely the piriton then and won’t buy that brand again! I have felt absolutely dreadful all day. Like a stonking hangover without the fun!

That’s exactly what it does to me. Gives me a hangover and makes me cranky too! Horrible stuff.

I have also been in an absolutely rotten mood all day! Bloomin piriton. At least it worked on the bite I suppose!

I first had piriton when I was young and had terrible allergic reactions to gnat bites. At the time it would knock me out so much that I remember friends had to collect the children from school. I was flat out. At that period in my life I used them often as the bites were horrendous.
However, the years roll on and once more I took it and no side effects at all. I assumed that the composition of them had improved. Then a relation took them for the first time and was as flattened as I had been. I queried this in the pharmacy and was told that people still had these effects. I believe that my body had got accustomed to them so I can pop them into my mouth without a thought as they are so effective for hay fevers, bites etc.
