Pain behind ears after ear infection?

Hi all,

I had 2 courses of antibiotics for an ear infection (worse in left ear) at the end of the second course I went back to gp as I was still having some symptoms and pain behind my left ear with ringing. He said the infection had cleared up and behind my ear wasn't swollen

I now have pain behind my right ear and it feels swollen slightly behind. I still have fluid coming out my ears every morning and occasional pain but the ringing has subsided somewhat

Has anyone else experienced this?

You need to get it seen to ASAP. It could be mastoiditis which can be very nasty if it develops.

@wintertime6 thank you for your reply! I asked the gp about this last time when I went (about a week ago) and he told me there's no sign of it and to take paracetamol?!

@sarahjsdddd it can develop very quickly so it may not have been there last week. It may not be mastoiditis, but your symptoms sound very similar and it can be very nasty if untreated. If I were you I'd be phoning for an urgent GP appointment first thing tomorrow and if they don't see you then head to A&E. Or if you're acutely unwell tonight then go to A&E now.
