does he take any medication that could be making him thirsty? How is his general health - is he lively and energetic like most boys his age?

It sounds normal to have a wet nappy at 8.45pm and still wake up wet in the morning.

btw, that probably is too much juice to drink. it's very bad for the teeth. Try and get him to drink water instead.

My son is the same. He drinks loads. We thought he may have diabetes insipidus but have decided t not to investigate as the only way to diagnose is by a blood test (which for a 2 year old woul be quite traumatic) and the treatment is to give them the fluids they require!!

Like you I make sure his juice is VVV weak but we go through many nappies a day!

Hi,

If you are worried about your DS having diabetes, it really is a very simple test - just a single fingerstick will give you a yes or a no.

Is he also losing weight? Tired? Lethargic?

If he doesn't have any of these other symptoms it probably isn't diabetes, but the place as always is the dr if you are really worried about these things.

(Children can go into a diabetic coma very quickly - not saying your DS has diabetes but may be best to get it checked out).

Hope it's nothing sinister,

I think my 2.2 year old chareg drinks alot

he has a full big Avent cups of milk in the morning.... and again in the evening

and inbetween 3 big Avent cups of water

If he were gievn juice or squash i think he would drink as much as he was given IUSWIM

I would stop giving him juice and just do water (and maybe 1 or 2 cups of milks per 24 hours if ehs till drinks milk)

You may fond that when water is offered he drinks less... but if thirsty he will drink water

I'm talking about diabetes insipidis not diabetes mellitis - they are different and as DH is a GP and i am a nurse we feel happy with our decision.

insipidus & mellitus ....1 glass of wine and my spelling goes to pot

I agree with NannyL's advice about stopping the juice altogether, don't even give watered down stuff.
