Lumpy head!!

Earthymama · 05/10/2007 21:44

I've got a patch of lumps above my temple, towards the front of my head. The skin is 'creeping', it's hot andsore to touch.

I've got a sore ear, too, slight sore throat and my sinuses feel tender.

If it was lower on my neck I'd think swollen glands, but are there any glands there?

Any ideas.....please?

shingles?

3littlebats · 05/10/2007 21:54

Sounds like shingles

cadelaide · 05/10/2007 22:03

shingles can be a bit horrid, although not serious. There is an anti-virul med that works if you take it soon enough, or of course it may be something else so...you know what's coming Earthymama.....

.....see your doc.
Hope you feel better soon

Earthymama · 05/10/2007 23:17

Well, I knew MN was as good as NHS Direct....I'm off to Out Of Hours Doc to be checked for SHINGLES!! Oh No, just can't believe it!!

Let us know how you get on! Poor you!

Earthymama · 06/10/2007 11:23

Yes it is Shingles; I've been given anti-virul mediction and told to rest....I can't say I'm sorry about that part .
Just feeling a bit fluey and tearful, so I'm going to bed with back copies of the Guardian, that I buy but never get time to read, my trashy Nora Roberts book and my knitting.

I wish I had a laptop.

Thank you for your responses take care EM

Having read your other thread I can tell you that this is down to STRESS and you need to rest. It has been taken out of your hands now - you have no choice. I am really sorry you are suffering - I have had shingles and it is horrid. You must rest until you are completely recovered and let other people help you. I hope you will feel better soon.

Earthymama · 06/10/2007 14:46

Thank you, I will rest. I feel fluey and achey, my head is sore and was quite painful, though painkillers work.

Is this it? I don't know what to expect, as the descriptions concentrate on the symptoms such as blisters etc, without saying how you will feel and what to do.

I am the world's worst patient and poor DP now has me and Ma to look after. On Monday I'll get Soc Serv to up the care package to include cleaning.

I'll appreciate knowing what your experience was, 3littlebats.

My dad had the medication at the early stages of shingles - he felt shitty for the first week, but very quickly recovered.

I do hope that you're feeling better soon - and at least having to rest will do you good!

Hello again. I have been away for a couple of daya. Hope you are coping ok Earthymama.

I had shingles round my waist. I had the blisters round one half of my body - very sore and couldn't bear the contact from clothes etc. I also felt shivery, poorly and very sick. The line of blisters was over my liver so I think that may have hadsomething to do with it.

there were no antiviral drugs back then - 30 years ago, so I just had to ride it out. Took about 3 weeks.

When you have it round your head it can make you feel a bit dizzy and can affect your ear. However, antivirals usually make a big difference.

Rest is essential. Shingles is only one manifestation of your body reacting to stress. Heed the warning. Other things can be much worse, and stress related illness is very common amongst carers.

HTH

Thank you 3lb, (oh that looks like 3 pound!!)

I'm feeling really poorly, and have developed an ear infection, I've got AB now so that should help. I've been tearful, but stayed in bed most of the day.

I'm a rubbish patient, I can't bear to do nothing so I guess I'll have to admit that I'm not well. I need to review my life and sort more help I think. DP and I had a 'chat' about sharing responsibility in our home.....maybe that caused the tears!

Thank you for your advice, I will take it though I thought I could write my Xmas cards!!
