Another scan tomorrow? Help with health anxiety

Hi there,

I have had a lump in my breast for a few years now and have had 8 ultrasounds. My last one in hospital was 3 years ago and have another booked for tomorrow (GP did one a few weeks ago and said I should go to Radiology as their equipment is better) but I'm wondering if that is excessive and should cancel?

Has anyone else had multiple scans done on one area? It's crazy as I'm worried about the lump but also worried about having unnecessary tests especially as doctors have said it's ok before.

Any help would be welcome as my anxiety is terrible. Thanks

I think it is far. more important to have the ultrasound to assess the lump than the infinitely small risk of the ultrasound.

The ultrasound is safe.

I have a 60% genetic risk of cancer , and I am very grateful to be able to have regular imaging.
I have yearly breast MRI, mammogram and ultrasound, and don't hesitate to book them.

Thanks for your reply, I guess I feel silly being told everything is ok and still going for scans. I can see why you go and that makes a lot of sense.

Ultrasounds are fine.

I’d be more concerned if it were a bunch of catscans.

Defo go and get reassurance all is well.

I’ve cancelled scans before and regretted it each time when it starts to weigh on my mind that I didn’t get the reassurance when it was offered and that I could potentially have let something get much worse before it’s discovered.

I have not ever regretted going for a scan, even if in retrospect I think I was silly to get so worked up about whatever it was I was being referred for.

In short - go for your scan! (and if you get the all clear take yourself off for a celebratory piece of cake/cup of coffee afterwards and congratulate yourself on being responsible and on top of things Wink)

Ultrasound is absolutely safe, that’s why they use it on unborn babies.
