Should I cancel breast clinic appointment?

I have a breast clinic appointment tomorrow after being referred by my GP for a lump in my breast but today the lump seems to be much smaller than it was before.

My first GP appointment was 6 weeks ago and I got prescribed antibiotics for possible mastitis but the lump still hadn't gone after finishing the course so I had a follow up phone appointment and got referred.

I've been trying not to think about it so hadn't checked for a few days but checking this morning the lump's much smaller and barely there. I don't want to waste their time if it's just normal hormonal lumpiness (I have no idea of what's normal at the moment, I stopped breastfeeding in December after over 4 years of either being pregnant or breastfeeding) So it's probably nothing and I'm wasting their time but I have a family history of breast cancer on my mum's side so I selfishly would quite like the reassurance of having a check.

Definitely go to your appointment

Absolutely go, you are not wasting their time at all. Much better to be checked and all be fine, especially with a history. That’s not selfish at all. Good luck Smile

londongirl12 · 26/08/2020 10:38

Definitely get it checked. What if it comes back? You'll go through all this all over again. If it puts your mind at rest, it's worth doing.

Juancornetto · 26/08/2020 13:14

Thank you, I'll go and not feel guilty Smile

You absolutely need to go. I really don't want to freak you out but Inflammatory BC is often missed as the GP thinks it's mastitis. I could also never feel my lump although it was there. Please come back in a few days and tell us it was a false alarm 😊

sunnysideup05 · 26/08/2020 13:30

Definitely go! I had an appt at the breast clinic yesterday for a lump and some pain that no-one was particularly concerned about, but it was still very reassuring to have it checked out and to get the all clear.

Juancornetto · 26/08/2020 14:03

Thanks @snowsinwater. I will do, I hope you're doing well now x

You are me!

Almost exactly, I'd had a painful breast, saw the dr. who gave me antibiotics, but she found the lump, not me.

Now I'm waiting for the breast clinic appointment to come through.

@Juancornetto I am officially cancer free now after a lot of treatment, thank you for asking, I actually became a grandmother for the first time today (super excited) so I have a lot to live for. I am your best case scenario from a pretty grim diagnosis which is one of the reasons why I am so keen for people to get things checked out rather than ignoring them 😊

Melabells · 27/08/2020 14:30

Op I am in a similar situation and wanted to ask you, your lump was it sore? I've had what I assumed was blocked milk ducts with two lumps that are not shifting for a week and a half now. It's not sore but I can feel a change of texture in the area of my boob affected. Gp is seeing me Monday not sure if they would refer me as I don't have the family history.

Juancornetto · 27/08/2020 14:57

Wonderful news @SnowsInWater! Congratulations on being cancer free. And a brand new Granny
