My dh uses it for ankylosing spondylitis. He says that its high in omega 3 fatty acids and other stuff that is good for the body. Don't know about giving it to a baby though, will ask him when he gets up

CleanKittyCat · 16/10/2004 12:52

have spoken to dh, he says is ds weaned? If not do not give it to him. If he is then give only 1ml per day. But is very reticent to tell you to do that. DH has been taking this stuff for about 20 years. He only takes 1 teaspoonful per day and he weighs 10 stone (140 pounds) don't know what that is in kg. It is very hard to decide how much to give one so little. Watch his stomach if he complains of tummy pains or his bowel movements are frequent, explosive or runny stop giving him it.

You can get a medicine syringe from the chemist for about 50p use this to give him it. it isn't very nice tasting so he may spit it out. (wouldn't blame him it is yukky) dh has to make me take mine

I use it! Flaxseed oil. Apparently it ia a good sorce of alpha-linolenic acid (omega 3). My 4 year old takes a teaspoon a day (the Holland and Barret one doesn't taste TOO bad!).

I have just looked uo in a book called "Optimum Nutrition for Babies & Young Children" and it says it can be given to anyone over 6 mths old & reccomends a teaspoon per day up to age 2, then 2 tea spoons for 3 yrs and one tablespoon for everyone else.

If your baby doesn't like it, try it in the milk/food.

Good luck!

It is recommended at 1 teaspoon a day for babies (6 monts +) particularely for bottlefed babies... but any baby would benefit.
I would mix it with food.

gloworm · 16/10/2004 20:05

half teaspoon should be enough until he is about 2yrs, then give a full teaspoon. its quite easy to hide in yoghurt.

toddlerbob · 16/10/2004 20:39

Keep it in the fridge...or it goes rancid. I hide it in pureed fruit. I give ds 1 tablespoon a day, but I worked up from 1/2 a teaspoon until I found a level which helped his eczema. Throw away any unused after the bottle has been open for 3 months. Only put it on cold food. I have also put my dad on it for his poor memory - still waiting for an improvement!

I use linseeds (on my cereal) same plant isn't it?

blossomhill · 16/10/2004 21:57

What does it do? Is it similar to EyeQ?

pupuce · 16/10/2004 22:01

Read this

JoolsToo · 16/10/2004 22:04

I use linseed instead of bran which doesn't agree with me - it keep you regular

blossomhill · 16/10/2004 22:07

God I could seriously could do with some of that. I suffer with quite a lot of the the symptoms it treats! It doesn't mention it but I was wondering if it would help with hyperactivity?

blossomhill · 16/10/2004 22:08

joolstoo - I tried linseed as I suffer from constipation and they gave me such a stomach ache!

JoolsToo · 16/10/2004 22:11

blossomhill - I don't have any probs at all - bran made me bloated. What sort do you get and how do you take it?

I have the little brown seeds from Holland and Barrett - its dead cheap and I put 4 - 6 heaped teaspoons on my cornflakes - you can't really taste the seeds - you just get the odd one or two stuck in your mouth that you find halfway through the day but it does the trick

blossomhill · 16/10/2004 22:12

jools too - I got the same ones from H & B. Maybe they don't agree with me?

JoolsToo · 16/10/2004 22:16

was it definitely the seeds? did you try them for long? I don't suppose they would agree with everyone. I did recommend them to dd - and she's ok with them too. Don't know what to suggest then!

Skate · 16/10/2004 22:22

So this a good way to get Omega-3 into children?? I didn't know that - might try a teaspoon on ds's brekky!

MistressMary · 16/10/2004 22:23

Great thanks for all that info.
We got the H and B oil, just wanted a few tips and you came up trumps. Thanks.
