would like to get DD1's (5 very soon!)eyes tested, have no reason to think there is anything wrong but both my parents, dh's parents and my brother wear glasses.

Is it free or do i have to pay?

Katz - it's free.

At some point this year at school the nurse/Hv will come in and do a sight and hearing test but they are pretty basic. If they pick up on problems they let you know.

We didn't get any problems back but as I have had eye problems since little I took DD anyway. I just booked a regular appointment and made sure they knew she was 5.

As your DD knows her letters it will be just a normal test - like you'd have. You get to stay with her. If there were any problems re. letter reading (its all capital letters BTW) then they can do it using pictoral images too.

thanks , will have to find out where you go,

there is one thing which slightly bothers me is that i don;t think dd1's pupils are the same size! but it soo hard to tell, i've noticed in person but also in photos, but since they respond to light independently it could just be coindence!

I have to say that I just took Dd to Specsavers in town as it was the easiest. Optician was lovely though and pretty thorough.

I am glad you started this thread as I was just about to book an appt for my DD (5).

I don't think there is anything wrong with her eyesight as such but one eye is deffo bigger than the other - anyone know if I should be worried about this???

I have a lazy eye - my parents couldn't be arsed to take me to the opticians as a child. Anyway, I don't have a squint but have poor vision in my left eye due to the right eye doing all the work and I wear glasses. My DH reckons my right eye looks bigger than my left .
