cold and mucus causing baby vomiting (bleugh)

DS2 (7 months) has a bad cold and chesty cough - keeps vomiting up his feeds (some not all) presumably because of swallowing mucus. Any tips on avoiding this -

currently I am

*holding him up for half an hour or so after feeds

*using saline nose drops (not popular with him) before feeds

  • propping up the cot so his head is raised

  • using baby vicks on his chest

  • putting a bowl of hot water on the radiator with olbas oil and lavender oil

are there any other top tips?

My little DS2 is 9 wks and has broncholitis (not sure of spelling); essentially a bad cough and cold. I am BF him sitting up, little and often, to try and combat the vomiting, which is helping a little.

The only other recommendation I had from the doctor was to put him in a steamy bathroom to ease the congestion.

its awful isn't it? my DS has mild bronchiolitis too. the vomit is really nasty and smelly - and it seems no matter how long I keep him propped up, sometimes it still comes back up.. did the doctor say if it was the mucus causing the vomit or just the coughing?

The doctor didn't really say anything useful about the vomiting! She just said to prop his bed up to ease his congestion, which we were already doing.

Thankfully, it should only last a few more days, he seems fine in the day but vomits loads in the evening and during the night.

I'm getting used to the smell, not sure if that is actually a good thing though

On the saline drops, make sure you don't give them immediately before the feed. Leave it ten minutes or so if possible - experience with DD has taught me that any sooner and the feed is bound to come back up as the drops can start off the gag reflex.

Agree with Washersaurus that steamy bathrooms can help.
