Headaches

Anyone else get terrible headaches with their monthlies?

For the past six months I've been waking up on Day One with a throbbing in my left temple which radiates down the left side of my face and neck. It stays there til Day Three when it moves to the right side and then on Day Five I wake up and it's gone!

Anyone had this or treated this??

maybe menstrual migraines. Typical pattern re days of occurance - though not necessarily in place of attack on the head. Do you get the headaches at other times?

No, I never get headaches inbetween

hmm, sounds v much like it then. Search internet & you will find info on it. It is thought that migraines have a hormonal component to them, as much more common in women than men, people with general migraines also tend to get them worse/more often at begining of period & some people (like you?) get them ONLY at this time.

One good news is that if this is the case you can get treatment specifically for hormonal migraines (don't know how good it is). Failing this, triptan tabs are v good in general if nurofen fails (paracetamol tends to be useless) for treating migraine attacks.

ps dont be fobbed off by gp if they are not v helpful.

Yeah I find that Paracetamol does nothing for these headaches. To be honest I've been taking Co-codamol (the strong ones!) which I was given when I broke my ankle. They are the only thing to touch it!

When it gets bad I can't concentrate or think straight and a Co-codamol a day lets me get on with things as usual.

I will get something more specific for it though if I can - Thank you.

radio 4's case notes programme (9pm tonight, repeated tomorrow at 4.3pm) is about headaches this week
