Pain at bottom of rib cage

What could this be?! I'm waiting for an ultrasound. Only symptom is like a dull ache mainly on the left side but sometimes it goes across. Ribs and breastbone are sore when pressed. I do a lot of heavy lifting with my toddlers. Obviously I'm freaking myself out Confused Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Iv been getting this for 4 years. I can’t tell you what it is though as my scan came back clear back then. Iv just been fobbed off with it since.

bankofpennies · 23/07/2020 14:09

I've had this for years. Scans come back clear. I think it's costochondritis.

RagamuffinPuffling · 23/07/2020 14:12

Thanks both I did wonder if it could be that. That's so annoying that you've not gotten to the bottom of it @Saladd0dger! Because it's not pleasant!

Do you have big breasts? I do and I get horrendous rib pain if I don't put a bra on early enough in the day. I think the weight of them affects my ribs but that is just my own opinion on how it makes me feel.

RagamuffinPuffling · 23/07/2020 14:31

They're not massive but big enough (E cup) and I have switched to bralettes rather than bras in lockdown....

I find I am comfiest in sports bras now. Perhaps try something more supportive and see if that helps? I think our ribs come up higher than we think and I have to actively lift mine up and off my ribs. Oh the glamour...

GreyGardens88 · 23/07/2020 14:51

I've had this for years, comes and goes and can spend 6 months in one area, then moves to another area in my abdomen. I've always put it down to either wind because I drink a lot of fizzy drinks or a physical symptom of stress/anxiety

RagamuffinPuffling · 23/07/2020 15:01

@GreyGardens88 I am under a lot of stress and have other symptoms of anxiety - I just can't believe it would produce this kind of pain but maybe it can! It's crazy how what's going on in your head can manifest physically

I have the same issue. Bear in mind im tall, reasonably athletic, ideal BMI so not over weight. Its more obvious when i sit down. I have this feeling that something is fighting to get out from under my ribs on the lower edges. Also i get occasional spot sensations of low level pain in various places of ribcage but i can press quite happily anywhere on my tummy and on my ribs and not feel a thing. Its almost like phantom pain. It isnt sharp pain that makes you jump, its almost like just a sensation. I have convinced myself now that after several visits to GP, its related to stress,,ie the discomfort isnt real, its imagined but very convincing.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 23/07/2020 20:13

I'm awaiting a scan for pain below my ribcage. Particularly on my right hand side. It hurts on and off through the day and then at night I feel a sensation of pressure in that area too. Sometimes it feels like a vibration as well as a pressure.
Doctors said it could be gallstones. Or biliary reflux so prescribed omeprazole.

Thinkpinkstink · 23/07/2020 20:16

I had costochondritis and it was more stabby than achy.

You'd be surprised how anxiety can manifest, as literal, real, symptoms. I'm always shocked when I narrow a pain down to stress rather than physical ailment/injury

Saladd0dger · 23/07/2020 23:28

Do any of you guys have vitamin deficiencies? I always have no folate and low ferritin and vitamin D deficiency. I just presumed the pain I was getting was to do with that after a while of the doc not been interested

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 23/07/2020 23:32

I have pain in my left ribs which I think is muscular from months of working at the kitchen table. It hurts when I twist to the right. I need to get my work to courier me a proper chair.

KoalasandRabbit · 24/07/2020 04:21

I get this at times, often get pain in the chest and its often after coughing a lot. It's always the ribs on the right hand side. No idea what causes it, maybe my allergies that make me cough, been coughing since December. I do have low folate, also peri-menopause age which you get lots of wierd symptoms.

RagamuffinPuffling · 24/07/2020 06:45

@KoalasandRabbit I'm also at the peri stage!
