Sunburn hasn't returned to skin colour

I'm normally so careful in the sun, but I missed a patch on my back about 6-8 weeks ago in the intense heat and got a bad burn. It was very red, itchy, and it peeled at the end. It healed after a week, but I still have a patch of discoloured skin on my back. It's just a few shades darker than my skin. I so rarely get sunburn I don’t know if it's normal. Is it normal? Will it go away? Should I be getting it checked by a doctor?

Is it not a patch of suntan now? Skin can often burn then fade to a tan

Lougle · 18/07/2020 12:46

That's a sun tan. It's not ideal to burn, at all, but the result will often be a sun tan in that area.

Yeah it's a sun tan - my worry was more that it hasn't faded yet. But is it normal for a tan to last for a couple of months? I don't really take a tan, I'm either white or red, that's why I'm a bit clueless!

Yes tan can last months

Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation perhaps
