Finger infection. . . am I going to have to go back to the doctor?

hi there,

So I've had a weird lump on my finger for over a year. Didn't think too much of it (looked like a swollen blood vessel at first) but recently it has enlarged quite significantly.

I went to the doctor last week and he drained it and gave me antibiotic cream to apply 4 times per day.

I think it has got bigger and I'm a little concerned.

Could anyone help me out please? Do I persevere with the cream or do I need a second appointment?

My reason for asking on here is that I really don't want to bother the doctor unnecessarily. I know they've got much more pressing concerns than my dodgy finger at the moment! Thanks in advance. Xx

How long were you told to use the cream for? If it's refilling at a similar rate then you probably need to speak to dr again, if it's slower then maybe just needs more this to work.

Personally I'd have thought you would have been told antiseptic cream (or old fashioned boiling salt water) after it being drained, but I'm not a doctor.

Hi @DwellInPossibility thanks for the reply!

So the doctor didn't stipulate how long I should use the cream for (my fault-i should have asked) but the leaflet says between 1 to 2 weeks.

My go-to would have also been antiseptic cream, too. I'm now just worried about the damn thing spreading up my finger and having to have a more invasive treatment to fix it. I also didn't think that antibiotic cream could permeate the skin? Seems a bit strange.

Thanks for the advice anyway. I'm going to give it until after the weekend and probably go back. . . Confused

I think I got it from doing some woodwork in the garden which has put me off manual work for a while!
