Nail is white and very brittle - what could it be? (Photo)

It’s been like this for a few months now but the whiteness has increased.

It’s very brittle and feels different to my other nails as it’s so thin.

Any ideas?

No idea but bumping.

Maybe an illness you had 6 months ago. I know hair gets a bit stroppy a few months after a stomach bug for eg.

Or a fungus?

The brownish mark is new, it was just white before. I can’t recall damaging it.

Fungal mail infection. You can get stuff for it from the chemist.

Nail not mail!

Fungus. IT's an absolute pain in the arse to get rid of. You can get drugs but they are quite hardcore. I used the paint stuff on my toenail and it did go away but took about a year.

Is the nail still attached to the nail bed? Fungal infections and nail psoriasis can cause onycholosis, which could explain the different colour on the pink part of your nail, which should be attached to the nail bed.

It’s called onycholysis, the nail has separated from the nail bed. It’s normally caused by a fungal nail infection, it’s best to trim it as short as you can otherwise you could catch it and rip it off
