Orthodontic treatment not resuming due to Covid-19

My DD is in braces for an impacted canine. She had surgery to expose the tooth, a gold chain to pull it down into position and all was going well. She was last seen in January and her March appointment was cancelled. We’ve heard nothing since and when I call the hospital clinic, they say they have no idea when they will open. I’m worried her braces have not been checked for 7 months and that her dental health is suffering. Surely they would have some idea when they will see her? Any orthodontists out there?

I’ve been to my orthodontist in last week. As has a friend who goes to a different orthodontist. Both Invisalign though so private. But my nhs dentist is back open too.

Thanks. We stuck with the hospital for the follow up to her op as thought it might be easier if problems but now regretting it. If they could just tell me when I’d feel happier but they have no idea!

I would ring them and see what they say.

I would write to them and ask if there will be any risk associated with a delay.

We were told in our case a delay was not a problem, nothing would get worse, it just wouldn't move. But I know nothing about dentistry.

Send them an email, and you can also ask if you can transfer too.

I’ve called every month! They say there’s no damage so long as she keeps cleaning carefully but they wouldn’t normally not check braces for 7 months. They just need tightening and slight adjustment as she’s nearing the end I think.

There’s no email address!

I received an email on Friday from our nhs orthodontist saying they are currently decided on who to invite for an appointment first. Had to fill in a form about DS and any changes with brace. He's lost four brackets so far, so hoping they see him soon!

Thanks for that. Sounds like my clinic is not unusual then. Hopefully I’ll hear soon. Poor girl is dreading starting 6th form in braces!
