It wasn’t there when I brushed my teeth this morning but it looks like a round white spot and it hurts a bit! I’m thinking cyst or ulcer?!

It's either a tonsil stone or a little pocket of tonsillar pus. It'll work it's way out by itself. It's variation of normal and you don't need to do anything about it. Some people squeeze them out but you'd have to be brave with the gag reflex.

@Arrowcat it’s actually no where near my tonsil it’s on the fold of skin in front of my tonsil so I don’t think it’s a tonsil stone I tried flushing it and it’s still there. My tonsils aren’t red or swollen so I don’t think it’s a infection but it’s very annoying and hurts a bit when I eat. Confused

I had one of these, kept popping up every now and then when I ate things that rubbed it. I looked online and think it was a mucocele. Havent had it for a couple of years now though. Not sure if yours looks the same as the one I had but it does look similar.

This is the fourth post regarding this I am seeing in last few days(including one of my ownGrin).
It is a mucous retention cyst. Mine was confirmed by an ENT. Keep an eye on it as it might get bigger. My one is quite big but recently started reducing is size.
I wonder why so many people are getting it recently though, just like hay fever which is also making life miserable this year.

Chmorgs · 01/07/2020 11:13

@Literallyfedup was it at the back of your mouth too? I’m scared it’s gonna make me gag. Is there anything the ENT suggested to help it reduce quicker? Salt rinses etc?

I have at the back of mouth too on the arch near the tonsils. For the time being the ENT doctor has asked to keep an eye on it and do salt rinse. I applied some corsodyl gel on it which started the size reduction.
Since I also have a lot of sinus facial pain the consultant has booked me for a para sinus CT scan since he said I may be having over mucous production in my sinuses which caused this cyst or might have additional retention cyst in sinuses too.

Chmorgs · 01/07/2020 12:23

@Literallyfedup how long has yours been going on and does it really sore/painful on and off?! Trying to avoid eating on that side and doing salt rinses after meals now. Just not fun is it! I haven’t had any sinus pain but have been getting post nasal drip on and off from hayfever with a sometimes metallic taste. Funnily enough my dad is ENT and he things it’s a mucus retention cyst too.

@FunnyLookingWoman how long did it stick around for and what did you do to relive your symptoms?

It doesnt look like a mucus retention cyst, they are normally cleae

It just looks like either a small ulcer or spot. I really wouldnt worry about it.

Literallyfedup · 01/07/2020 13:01

@chmorgs I first noticed it in first week February. I had a cold and sore throat so was checking my tonsils when I first noticed it. Thought it was viral and hoped it would go away. Then I started getting metallic taste after 2 weeks , ignored it again. Then the taste turned persistent bitter so went to GP who prescribed penicillin for 10 days. Taste improved but cyst remained , then again taste changed to metallic/bitter so contacted GP on June 3rd who referred me to ENT.
I am also suffering from post nasal drip and have noted that the taste becomes bad when it drips too much. ENT doctor asked me to use sterimar spray for post nasal drip. After using it the bad taste has gone but the cyst is still there. My CT scan is on 3rd July and next ENT appointment in on August 17th.

Arrowcat · 01/07/2020 17:57

It's not a mucocele or a mucous retention cyst.
If you remain concerned if suggest seeing your dentist.

@Arrowcat it’s actually really stinging and burning so I think it might be a aphthous ulcer after all. Never had one on my soft palate before..feeling really run down thus afternoon dunno if that’s related or not.
