Rash on baby

DD has got an odd rash on her chest that I'm a litle concerned about. It's a bit pink (though not aggressively so) and seems to be exclsuively around her nipples and the surrounding area (e.g. where boobs will eventually be!).

It doesn't seem to trouble her, it goes white when pressed and she's otherwise well in herself with no temperature, eating like a trouper and seems pretty happy.

Any ideas what it could be? Should I take her to the GP. She is 5 weeks old.

pennies, if you are not sure what it is and are worried about it you should go and see your GP. Its better to be told that its nothing to worry about, than sit at home checking it every five minutes and worrying.

Agree with zubb - if she's ok in herself it's unlikely to be anything serious, but ime, GPs are more than happy to check anything out in babies as young as yours.

Take her to the GP. I'm sure it's nothing (my two have always been prone to rashes - I used to be at the doctors all the time when ds1 was a baby, just to be told it was "something viral"!) But every doctor I have had has always said, with a new baby, it's best to go and check if you are at all worried. Also best to do it this morning because you will worry more at night-time if it's still there.

My ds (6 weeks) has just had similar and it's just gone. It lasted about 4-5 days. I wondered if it was down to Johnson's Top to Toe wash which I just started using on him. My other two don't react to anything like that but I've stopped using it and it's cleared up.

The other explanation I had was that it was viral as he has been coughing for the last week.

Otherwise, like your dd he was perfectly happy.

However, if you are at all worried go to the GP. They would much rather you checked these things out with babies - or could you go to the baby clinic and see the HV?
