Do you think this could be measles?

For the last couple of hours dd1 has been scratting like a loppy dog on her legs etc. I've just looked and her legs, tummy and back are covered in red spots, there are few on their own but mosts patches of them. She also has a couple on her face.

I did ask her if she had been itchy at school today and she said no, only her head little bit.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows if they could be measles (I've read up and measles mostly start on the head and around the hairline), just strikes me as funny that the spots on her body came out after she came home.

I'm taking her to the doctors in the morning, she doesn't seem unwell in herself and her temperature is 36.1

is it definately not chickenpox?

ledodgy · 25/09/2007 19:32

Measles don't itch iirc.

She had chicken pox when she was 2.5 so think that is a no no.

She has had a hacking cough now for the last few days.

chicken pox??

ledodgy · 25/09/2007 19:34

sounds more like cp to me. Measles starts with a runny nose, cough and very high fever they feel very unwell and then the rash comes on gradually day by day till they're covered.

Radley · 25/09/2007 19:35

IIRC these don't look like the first bout of CP that she had.

you CAN definately get chickenpox more than once, it just sounded a bit more like it than measles. I guess you need to keep her out of school tomorrow anyway? so see how it develops.

German measles?

ChasingSquirrels · 25/09/2007 19:36

ok, x-posted, if it doesn't look like it, it probably isn't.

my ds2 has GM a few weeks ago, and I have heard of otehr cases recently, BUT it starts on the head and flushes down the body. ds2 wasn't itchy with it.

Going through obvious options -- have you changed your washing powder recently?
