Well, school had started again and 2 1/2 weeks in eldest DS has brought home worms. I need to dose us all, but the youngest will not be 2 for another 3 weeks. Last time
I had to give him Pripsen, which was a nightmare to get in him, and he was very distressed by the stomach cramps it caused. He is a big boy for his age, do you think for the sake of 3 weeks I should be ok with ovex for him?

Whoops. Thought someone was asking me personally for advice there!

Can't help, Im afraid. Ironically we've never had worms. We've had nits, though.

Hope you get it sorted without too much discomfort for your 2yo.

My ds was 2 weeks off 2years old when dd had worms! I dosed him with the tablets!

And now you have reminded me to check again! I only realised that dd & ds had them when I started itching!!!

foxinsocks · 24/09/2007 11:04

lol fff

they are the worst worms. Worse than nits. Actually, what you can't beat is the double whammy - nits and worms. You're never sure which end to itch first .

You can get ovex in liquid form - it's banana (yuck) but might be easier than the tablets.

Incidentally, if your school has a sandpit might be worth asking them to change the sand. Dd and ds had worms over and over again in nursery and reception but cleared up once they got higher in the school and I'm sure it wsa the sandpit/playdoh (may be just coincidence and they learned to wash hands better!).

He should be fine, have a word with the pharmacist I'm sure they'll be able to recc something for him.
DD had worm in the summer and I remember DP thinking we were the absolute gutter trash from mars, haha, he'd never heard of them.

I personally would dose nearly 2 year old, but if you admit to pharmacist not yet 2 technically they shouldn't sell them to you. Lie and they won't get into trouble. Also the family pack (8) of Pripsen TABLETS (different drug to the sachets, and same as Ovex tabs) works out cheaper than the family pack (4) of Ovex tablets as they are about the same price but for half as many. You will need to repeat the dose in a fortnight.

And if you make the kids wear undies under their pajamas when they scratch at night, you don't have to wash their pajamas every night, just their undies.

fireflyfairy2 · 24/09/2007 11:21

Aye, my pharmacist told me not to dose ds.

Then I called my SIL who works in the dispensery of the chemist & she told me to dose him... off record of course

I am dreading the nits! Sis got them when she was wee... I got the worms

mankyscotslass · 24/09/2007 11:49

Thanks everyone, I think I will go with the Ovex. Will have a word with school about the sandpit, thanks.
Lol at the double whammy, we have had no nits since February, fingers x.
THanks again
