Open bedroom window if not done already to get cool air in. Keep checking. So long as he has no breathing problems, isn't vomiting profusely or anything, just keep giving paracetamol then ibuprofen 2 hourly. I would definately remove pj's regardless of upset. His temp needs to be brought down.

kittywits · 23/09/2007 22:23

The chances are he'll be fine

ronshar · 23/09/2007 22:23

Open his bedroom window just to cool the air in his bedroom. How would he be with the flannel. Do it to a teddy first make a little game of it if you can. Also how does he look to you. If he looks "not right" then be a bit more forceful in trying to remove his PJs, just the top will do.
I have a 3year old dd. I know exactly how hard it is to get them to do things they dont want to do!!!

Ulysees · 23/09/2007 22:24

it's always higher at night.
Hope he's ok soon xx

ronshar · 23/09/2007 22:24

Sorry Tori X post. We are both great though arent we!

fedda · 23/09/2007 22:25

See if you can distract him and change his nappy. He doesn't want it to be change because it's warm for him but it's probably wet as well and you don't want him to have rush there as it will make him uncomfortable. May be someone can distract him while you are changing him. if not, well, my DS also didn't want his nappy chnged when he was unwell and i didn't want him upset so I waited for a better time. Sponging really helps to bring the temperature down. also, i was kissing mine in hiw forehead and my lips were cooling him down. One day when he was really hot he was sleeping on my knees just like a baby and after some hours of sleep his temperature went back to normal. i think our breathing helps them.

tori32 · 23/09/2007 22:27

LOL ronshar aye to that!!

coleyboy · 23/09/2007 22:27

A temperature is the bodys way of fighting infection. The body raises it temp to kill off the infection.

So, a temperature is sort of a good thing. But if he is very unwell (not the usual symptoms of a cold etc) and his temp rises very quickly, consult a GP. Paracetamol should stabilise the temperature.

beautifuldays · 23/09/2007 22:29

have just been and changed his nappy - he was all upset because he had wet it and thought he had wet the bed (he's usually dry at night - but still wears pull ups just in case) bless him
think i'm just gonna go double check dd isn't hot, paranoid mother alert....

Not paranoid just a good mother.
Have a fun night patroling the landing with a thermometer in one hand and Paracetamol in the other

Oh LL I was scratching my head at that too ... I thought it was some clever old wives tale that worked to get temps down
How is he this morning BD?

fedda · 24/09/2007 14:37

littlelapin, i'm glad I made you laugh, my typing is awful so may be there are a lot of people laughing out there. Still, we are all so worried at times that little laugh is a blessing.
