Unexplained bruises on my leg

A few weeks ago I had a bruise appear just above my ankle on the back of my leg. I assumed I'd knocked it the day before. Also, had a few tingling pains behind my knee - they had gone by the next morning. Bruise lasted a while. Yesterday I woke up with another bruise on the same leg. It's in pretty much the same place as the last one - slightly more towards the inside of my leg.

Now I really can't remember whacking myself - bruise is quite big, almost 2 inches long. Had the same tingling behind my knee. Today my leg slightly aches and it feels as though the blood is rushing around ... hope you know what I mean! (As if you've had your legs crossed and then when you stand up your leg feels hot & cold at the same time!) The bruise is slightly lumpy underneath - same as yesterday, but this had worn off by the evening.

Any ideas?

maybe u could be aneamic (sp?) i think u should go the docs

pigsinmud · 22/09/2007 11:47

I suppose I could well be anaemic, as lately I've not been eating too well. Dh working in the evening and so I tend to pick at food when I do supper for children. I know I should sit down and eat properly with them, but I use the time they're sitting to clear up the kitchen! Also, I am a veggie.

Do you suffer varicose veins? Sometimes they can bleed. They can also give that aching feeling if you have been on your feet alot.

Are you on any medication? Some can cause unexplained bruising - look at the contraindications. Even if you have been taking something for a while without any side effects sometimes things can change.

pigsinmud · 22/09/2007 14:38

No varicose veins. I'm on the pill - Yasmin. Only been taking it for 3 months, so it ha crossed my mind that might have something to do with it. Weirdly though this is my week off! i think I better go to the GP as my leg is really tingly. Mind you by the time I get an appointment the bruise will have gone!

Still probably worth going even if bruise has gone, check your blood pressure and reassure you.

Is your leg swollen? In comparison to the other?
You need to go to the GP and perhaps ask him to do a clotting screen to check for clotting problems which can lead to unexplained bruising. Also as has been suggested a full blood count to check hb.

pigsinmud · 22/09/2007 15:18

No it's not swollen at all. Another very small bruise has appeared quite close to the other one. Thanks for all your replies. I'll definately make an appointment. As a family we hardly ever go the gp, yet whenever I do I worry I'm wasting his time ... not that he ever makes me fel like that.

how did you get on at docs today schilke?

pigsinmud · 25/09/2007 12:26

Oops haven't been I told myself that if I get a 3rd bruise then I'll go. Tingling gone and bruise fading. I've started talking floradix again just in case it's anything to do with iron levels.

I so hate going to the doc, feel like I'm wasting his time .... especially as I won't be able to book an appointment for a few days and by then the bruise will have gone.

Thanks for asking!
