Anyone had a hip scan for their baby and it been fine?

My 8 week old has been referred for a hip scan as her bum is slightly asymmetrical. I'm so worried now! Anyone had this and it been completely fine?

Yes, my son's turned out to be fine.

Yep had exactly the same - was all fine. The Hip scan was done by ultrasound as at that age they don’t have to do an X-ray.

Hi. My ds was referred and I remember being really upset and worried. It turned out to be completely fine and there was nothing wrong with him. I think it's good that the doctors are over cautious. Try not to worry, although I know that is easier said than done with a new baby.

Yes, ours was fine. Referred as DD was extended breech and huge which were both criteria for referral where we are

Yes. Both my children, because my eldest had a slight click at birth, but it turned out fine, and my youngest as we have a family history of congenital hip dislocation which has left my very elderly dad with quite severe disabilities. This is only because he was born in the 1930s and the problem just wasn’t recognised for what it was.
My sister, born in the 60s had a click, and it was sorted out with double terry nappies which held her hips in the correct position, and she’s had no issues.
Getting any kind of scan in your child is always a worry, but try to be assured that if the scan picks up hip dysplasia, it will be treated, and the earlier it’s picked up and treated, the faster and more successful the outcome

Yes both my kids it was picked up on the top to toe check at birth. Both fine.
DD the problem hadn't corrected by the first scan but it had by the second.
DS was corrected by the scan. In fact the Dr couldn't see anything at the 6 week check.

Yes one of mine had an ultrasound and the other an xray, due to family history of hip deformity. X-rayed one also had positional talipes. All fine now.

Yes my youngest daughter had a clicky hip which was picked up at birth. She had an Xray every 6 months and it was monitored by the hospital. Her hip eventually sorted itself out. I think its very common.

Hi, both my DD’s had hip dysplasia, which were picked up by a scan and then both wore a harness that kept their legs in a ‘frog’ position for 3 months, which completely sorted their hips out. My DS didn’t have this issue. Hip dysplasia is much more common in girls than boys, but, if the scan does show something’s up with your sons hips, I just want to reassure that the treatment really isn’t that bad. My babies very quickly got used to being in a harness, as did I. And it’s so much better to get it sorted early, as it gets much harder and more complicated to treat as the child gets older. All the best.

My friends baby had hip dysplasia as she was breech throughout the pregnancy. She had a harness for about 4 months which seemed so scary at the time but she's 10 months old now and totally fine, no lasting problems, it's just taken her a bit longer to roll, crawl etc

Yep it was fine - DD2 got picked up as having clicky hips when born so we joined the line of pissed off undressed babies at the clinic to be scanned and it was no problem. They are very very cautious with any potential issues so pick up loads who end up not having a problem at all.

Yes DD2 due to a click. She also had a second ultrasound as the first wasn't quite satisfactory (can't recall the details). She was fine.

Most fine, one had to go back ‘wait and see’, DS needed a harness. There’s a thread on here me freaking out about it.
He had it for only a month and completely forget about until I see threads like this.

It’s perfectly normal to be worried as it’s not what you imagined for your child, but now is the best time for treatment of needed. Statistically, you’ll be ok.

Yes my daughter had ones slightly later as she wasn't pulling to stand and had slightly wonky creases she was fine, turns out she imis just a bit wonky! She was also a breech premature twin

Yup, for two of mine! Even if it's not fine, I've had friends whose babies have ended up in the harness to help adjust them, and babies adapt to it remarkably quickly and they've all done really well and come out indistinguishable from everyone else's toddlers.

Ds was born with a positional talipes due to being breech for some time before turning. He had a hip scan at 6 weeks which was fine and his turned in foot sorted itself out as he started standing and putting pressure in it.

Initially he had Dysplasia in both hips. After 6w one corrected fully on its own the other 75%. After 10w both were fully corrected.
