Skin tag or something more sinister? (Pic attached, dont look if you’re squeamish)

Over the past 6 months I’ve started to develop a few skin tags- they start as quite large red lumps and then fade to normal skin colour and get smaller. I wasn’t worried about this as my mum has loads so I figured maybe it was hereditary/part of being older.

I have two on my inner thigh that appeared about a month or two ago. One of them seems to be getting smaller but I’ve noticed tonight that one of them seems to have developed some strange black crust (??) which looks concerning. Has anyone seen/experienced anything like this at all?

Googled skin cancer pictures and have terrified myself- I’m not normally health anxious but I was beyond stupid in my twenties and used sunbeds and travelled around/lived in lots of sunny countries where I wasn’t strict about SPF. I’m going to try and get a doctors appointment in the morning but was wondering if anyone can reassure me with some idea of what it might be?

Have attached some pictures, with one showing the two different lumps for comparison. It’s a bit gross- sorry!

I think it's probably an ingrown hair! I would get a needle to it and try to dig it out (sterilise the needle first) if that doesn't work and very warm bath and give it a good squeeze!

Sporner corner would love this!

Mysa74 · 18/05/2020 02:15

It doesn't look like a skins tag to me op, could it be in ingrown hair or slightly infected insect bite? Looks like one of the things they have fun with in sporners corner... I'd stop googling and seé the gp if new ones keep turning up.

loubieloo4 · 18/05/2020 02:16

@Mysa74 great minds 😂

SistemaAddict · 18/05/2020 02:29

Ingrown hair. Looks a beauty! Over to sporner's corner with your photos please. Make sure you post pics of the puss oozing and the hair that is sure to pop out too. Hot flannel on it then give it a squeeze. I'm quite jealous.

Lifeaback · 18/05/2020 07:34

Definitely no ingrown hair sadly.... that was one of the first thing I tried! They are so satisfying Blush

Can you grab the top that looks like a plug of gunk with a pair of tweezers? Is it painful? Have you tried squeezing it?

Lifeaback · 18/05/2020 09:07

I’ve tried squeezing but nothing comes out, the crusty top bit seems really lodged in there. It hurts when I’ve tried to squeeze it but doesn’t hurt usually

Perhaps email the photos to your GP?

Saisong · 18/05/2020 09:23

They look a bit like molloscum to me. If you've had a few then it is a possibility.

blueskys72 · 18/05/2020 09:28

Another vote for molloscum! Sometimes they bleed if you knock the top off.

Twisique · 18/05/2020 09:36

Is infected molloscum? You third picture has a bump that looks like it.

Twisique · 18/05/2020 09:36

Arg should have refreshed the page!Grin

Lifeaback · 18/05/2020 09:40

Just google molloscum and those pictures look very similar to mine! Thank you guys that’s really reassured me. I’ll keep an eye on the one that looks infected over the next couple of days and if it doesn’t seem to be healing will phone the GP or see if I can email them pics.

Third photo definitely looks like molluscum, I had them when I was younger. They can take a while to go but mine did eventually or you can get them frozen off. Harmless though!

candle18 · 19/05/2020 00:23

Ive had a few dermatofibromas on my leg and the one at the bottom of the picture looks a bit like one. Not sure if they can become inflamed or infected.

RainySaturday · 19/05/2020 01:15

Molluscum is bloody hard to get rid of. I googled for dd3 used Elizabeth Arden 24 hour cream on my dd and it worked well. dd1 had it for ages and we couldn't shift it. She still has scars on her thighs.
Get working on it!

sallylister15 · 22/05/2020 09:53

Does it hurt? Its look painful!

Honestly id check out an online dermatologist.

www.firstderm.com/

I just googled this company who can give you an answer to what it is with a pretty quick turn around!

I hope you get better soon

olivehater · 22/05/2020 09:55

They look just like my kids molloscum contagiousness. They stay there for 6 months or so then they will go red and look infected one by one then disappear. It’s like the body finally fighting them off. My third and last child is down to his last one on his leg and it’s going the same way.

olivehater · 22/05/2020 09:56

Contagiosum!!!!
