I am really unfit and have never done it before - I am fit enough to begin though as have no health concerns.
Plan was 1 mile run a lamp post walk a lamp post until I can only manage to walk!

I've been doing the Runner's World run/walk schedule, and it's been really OK - build up gradually.

look at runners world website, or real buzz.

walk 1 min run 1 min etc is the way to go.

there is a thread on here (runsentters keep mumming) that will give you some good advice and support. good luck!

And search for the Runsnetters Keep On Mumming thread - lots of support from new runners, some of which are now regularly running 2-3 miles although they only started in the Spring. Take it slow but try and get out every 2 or 3 days. You will be amazed at how quickly it comes along.

If you have a bicycle, perhaps get out and about on that for a few weeks first to build up your basic fitness.

I tried to get back into running after my fourth was born was so unfit, it was awful so I cycled for a while and it really helped. Then I swapped it for the walk/run/walk/run schedule and gradually built up from there.

Do grab yourself your copy of Runners World if possible or have a look at the website of one of the big running clubs (?serpentine)because they have good schedules on there for beginners.

I think most tell you to avoid running for a while anyway because of the risk of injury at the classic 3 month stage.
