Mirena - when do the side effects wear off?

I had a mirena coil fitted 8 weeks after the birth of ds3. I have now had it in 3 months. I don't get periods any more which is great but I have had terrible migraines (which I never usually get) and recently I have started to feel dizzy quite regularly. I think this is normal but I just wondered how long this is likely to go on

Hi, I had Mirena a couple of years then got rid of it. Can't be specific about your side effects but there are websites where other users complain about their symptoms and I remember headaches came up a lot.

I found it reduced my libido (great contraceptive eh) and I put on weight too (ditto). Much happier without it. Hope this helps and that you are able to make the right decision for you. If you google 'mirena' and 'side effects' you can get better info.

Depends how susceptible you are to the hormone effects I suppose, are they ata particular point in your "cycle" (so may be a surge of hormone) or random ? For me the occasional headache isn't so much of a downer compared to the benefits. It took longer than 3 months for my periods to go completely and still get the odd spotting. The symptoms you describe may also be coincidental to you adjusting to life with three !

I had mine fitted just over a year ago. Found the symptoms really horrible at first but gradually they stopped. Would say that I had had mine for about 5/6 months before I felt back to myself.
Libido has returned and I am finally shifting the baby weight.
(baby was 3 months when I got it fitted so some symptoms could have just been post pregnancy normal, IYSWIM)
I would recommend it. If you can put up with the first few months it is worth it.

Thanks for the responses. I am going to persevere with it for a bit longer as long as the side-effects remain fairly mild.
