Any idea what this is? Feel like I'm on a ship

I'm swaying when I'm standing and when I lie down, it feels like I'm on a boat. I don't have an earache or headache. I've had it for about a week and it's getting worse, feel ill and nauseous now.

Any ideas?

Sounds like an ear problem.

12345kbm · 09/05/2020 21:20

I thought that but would I have an earache?

Thank you btw.

Sounds like vertigo or labrinthytis. You need to get some medication for it. Speak to 111.

rosy71 · 09/05/2020 21:21

Inner ear infection? Ds1 had this & that's what it was. He was given medication by the GP.

GeraltOfRivia · 09/05/2020 21:22

Labyrinthitis? I get this. Starts as a funny sound in my ear, sort of popping, then develops into uneasiness, before proper room spinning and sickness. A bout can last two or three weeks easily. It's worth seeing a Gp about

SuckingDieselFella · 09/05/2020 21:23

Like sea sickness? I had it. It's called vertigo - stress on the second syllable, not like a fear of heights. You need medication from the doctor.

12345kbm · 09/05/2020 21:24

@Blueuggboots thank you. I have contacted my GP and should get a call back on Tuesday. Do you think I should do something sooner? OOH doc maybe?

I have this on and off - labrynthitis in my case. No earache, just the feeling of being on a boat and swaying/dizziness. I had a really bad bout of it in my early 20s which lasted ages, and now it happens every so often but doesn’t last that long.

Definitely phone GP or see if they’re doing an online service. In the meantime travel sickness medication can sometimes help.

Rollerbird · 09/05/2020 21:25

I had what turned out to be labyrinthitis with no pain.
Swaying like I was drunk. Felt sick unless lying absolutely still.
Needed Meds

12345kbm · 09/05/2020 21:25

@rosy71 thanks. Did he have any pain? I thought with an infection, I'd have pain.

TW2013 · 09/05/2020 21:27

Could also be migraine. They can prescribe travel sickness medication to take away the symptoms although not the cause (unless it is an ear infection). Other things that help are moving slowly, keeping your eye fixed on a point ahead of you and turning your whole body rather than just your head.

12345kbm · 09/05/2020 21:27

Maybe I should contact OOH then. Didn't want to tie up the services for obvious reasons. If it needs antibiotics though I may risk permanent damage...

Labyrinthitus it sounds like. I’ve had this before and it’s a complete pain! Is your bedroom spinning when you lie in bed, like you’re a 14 year old who has had too much cider?!

Furrybutts · 09/05/2020 21:28

Google MdDS

Notfastjustfurious · 09/05/2020 21:30

I had this, it's awful - it sounds like your vestibular nerve. Not painful just sick and dizzy, like labyrinthitis but no healing loss. Dr can prescribe something to help with the sickness but it sorts itself in about 6 weeks. If you Google the NHS website has lots of info.

LilacTree1 · 09/05/2020 21:30

What the others said

Call OOH

if it gets past the point of clutching the walls, it’s really bad ...I live alone though so really need to be able to stand up!!

12345kbm · 09/05/2020 21:30

@EL8888 yes and I was kind of enjoying the feeling as it felt like I was drunk. I'm not feeling too good now though. Exactly like having drunk too many snakebites Grin

I get this and was told it was BENIGN PAROXYSMAL POSITIONAL VERTIGO (sorry for caps - copy and paste job).

I was told there was nothing that could be prescribed. It comes and goes. I can have it for weeks and then it disappears.

LilacTree1 · 09/05/2020 21:30

X post

Maybe it sorts itself in 6 weeks but the right meds will sort it quicker

MrsWooster · 09/05/2020 21:30

Google benign positional paroxysmal vertigo and the Epley manœuvrer to try and resolve it. Might work and certainly won’t do any harm.

Notfastjustfurious · 09/05/2020 21:31

*hearing not healing stupid phone

TW2013 · 09/05/2020 21:31

Look at NHS website, look under vertigo which is the medical term (and not to do with a fear of heights).

MrsWooster · 09/05/2020 21:31

Jinx!

12345kbm · 09/05/2020 21:46

@Notfastjustfurious thank you will look that up.
@Furrybutts thanks will take a look.
@LilacTree1 thanks. I have been bumping into things. It feels like I'm walking on the deck of a ship, trying to keep my balance.
@CutCopyPastedLikeYou thanks will look that up.
@MrsWooster thanks will give it a go. Say hi to Bertie.
@TW2013 Will do, thank you.
