Any idea what this is? Feel like I'm on a ship

I'm swaying when I'm standing and when I lie down, it feels like I'm on a boat. I don't have an earache or headache. I've had it for about a week and it's getting worse, feel ill and nauseous now.

Any ideas?

It could be vertigo. Don't want to panic you but I just read the other day that vertigo like dizziness can be a symptom of CV.

CandyLeBonBon · 09/05/2020 23:50

Probably labrynthitis

Thank you everyone that answered, sorry I went to bed. I'm hoping it's just an infection and can be cleared up with medication. I'm just concerned about going to the Dr, hoping she'll just prescribe something for me when I speak to her as consultations are going ahead at my surgery.

Vertigo. DM gets random attacks of it and says it's like being thrown around at sea in a terrible storm. But the worst of it is the accompanying vomiting and diarrhoea.

It's awful and can suddenly appear at any point, no warning. Usually lasts a few days.

Nekoness · 10/05/2020 14:15

I have this. It doesn’t go away, but sometimes flares up when I’m ill with something else already (like herpes on your lips I suppose). Tried a couple of different prescriptions but nothing makes it go away. Just eases it to a lesser or greater degree.

12345kbm · 10/05/2020 14:15

@DorsetCamping thank you. I'm really hoping it's not as I don't want it to come back. I'm sorry to hear about your mum, sounds awful.

Op. Really important to get a proper diagnosis. You can't drive with labrynthitis. Not sure about vertigo but it's quite debilitating and very important that you have the right healthcare info

Thanks. I spoke to my Dr on the phone and she didn't think it was an ear infection. She said it sounds like hayfever which has been really bad this year. She said to keep taking my antihistamines and nasal spray and do what I can with salt rinses and eucalyptus steams. She said that it may also be the crystals in the ear which have been dislodged. She has prescribed anti sickness tablets. We agreed for me to treat it as hayfever and see how it goes. I'll contact her if it's not gone in a week or so.

Thank you though. I still have it and am hoping it goes soon.

if it is the crystals (BPPV) the Epley manoeuvre is a magical cure and really does work. I was awed by the GP who spotted it and fixed it. You'll need a bit of help with the manoeurve, someone to read the instructions while you do it. Get back to the GP and see if she thinks it is worth a try.

I’ve had this for 3 years now and have been for a million tests that never flag anything up. Tried lots of different meds too. The GP now thinks it’s to do with anxiety as when I’m less stressed/anxious it’s not as bad but when I’m struggling it really flares up and feels like I’m on a boat 24/7. I have to do a lot to calm my cortisol levels (stress hormone) right down

12345kbm · 15/05/2020 23:26

@Caramel78 it's absolutely horrendous you've had this for three years! It's been bad enough for a week or so. I really hope that's not the case.

@mencken no harm trying, thank you.

@12345kbm did you ever figure this out? currently got the same thing!

Germolenequeen · 11/04/2022 11:03

I have Vertigo/ BPPV and take betahistine all the time - helps quite a bit.
Mine is worse after flying - during periods of stress & when I've had too much alcohol - also I've heard that Covid can exacerbate it too.

Hope you get sorted OP it's awful 🥳

9 weeks ago I had alot of travelling. Came home to a motion type dizziness, no sickness. Thought it would pass but hasn't. I've had so many medications from sturgeon, citrizine, betahistine even proponol for anxiety and I even tried an ssri but nothing helped. The ssri was awful. Bloods OK. Saw ent said ears ok. Got an mri but not holding much out there. Feel this weird pressure in neck and shoulders like being pulled down. Lack of sleep. Awful when sitting especially. Any help??
