Any idea what this is? Feel like I'm on a ship

I'm swaying when I'm standing and when I lie down, it feels like I'm on a boat. I don't have an earache or headache. I've had it for about a week and it's getting worse, feel ill and nauseous now.

Any ideas?

I get vertigo sometimes. If it's the benign positional vertigo, keeping your head straight really can help. Turn your body rather than your head, it might help.

I had a really bad case of this a few years ago, I was swaying so much at work I was worried they would think I was drunk!

Hope you can get seen to soon!

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 09/05/2020 21:51

Are you on any medication?

12345kbm · 09/05/2020 22:16

@SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing nothing but antihistamines for hayfever. Haven't taken them for a week now though.

I contacted 111 and am expecting a call back from OOH doc.

@wineandsunshine it isn't nice, thank you will speak to the doc about it.

@Lostvoiced sorry to hear that. Thank you!

Good luck op! I had an inner ear infection that caused positional vertigo when I lay down and rolled over at night. Then I got rid of that at managed to get another ear infection that give me vertigo .... all fine in the end but awful to deal with

12345kbm · 09/05/2020 22:26

@whistleinthewind thank you. Yes it's getting worse, that's the thing. Like now I'm half sitting and it feels as though I'm on the bunk of a boat. I'm slowly moving from one side to another. V strange.

Glad you're better.

ménière’s disease.

12345kbm · 09/05/2020 22:28

@aWeaponCalledtheWord I hope it's an infection, not a disease.

Is it when you move your head or look up or lie down? If so it sounds like vertigo/BPPD. It will ease in a day or two but if you keep getting it you will need an Epley manoeuvre.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 09/05/2020 22:34

google those Epley Manoeuvres and do them...

I had this over a couple of days culminating in having to do the last flight of stairs on my hands and knees one night and so giddy everything was rolling before my eyes....like a Tom and Jerry fruit machine eyes!

first day i just felt whizzy, getting worse as the day wore on and the second day was me crawling up the stairs unable to keep my eyes open, so day three i googled and did the Epley thing and within an hour the dizzyness was gone, I couldn't believe it! but so relieved

my ma had labyrinthitis years ago and took her months to get over it, nothing really worked!
DS1 had it a year or so back and had to have a week in bed!

12345kbm · 09/05/2020 22:35

@TheRealSlamShady no it's not really affected by that.

It started about a week ago. I lay down and felt as though I was on a boat. Slowly swaying from one side to the next. I started to bump into things. The fridge or the door frame. As I walk it feels as though I'm keeping my balance on a ship deck.

Me moving my head doesn't affect it. I'm not moving my head now, and am slowly tilting from one side to the next on the sofa.

Vertigo.

justanotherneighinparadise · 09/05/2020 22:37

I got it after I was ill, my blocked sinuses caused it.

zippyswife · 09/05/2020 22:43

Labrynthitis contact your gp and it’ll clear up pretty quickly with a prescription

12345kbm · 09/05/2020 22:52

Doc phoned and said to go in to see her at the hospital as that's the only way I can get medication prescribed. I said I'd wait to speak to my surgery next week.

@12345kbm hmmm possibly not vertigo then? Maybe an inner ear infection?

rosy71 · 09/05/2020 23:20

@rosy71thanks. Did he have any pain? I thought with an infection, I'd have pain

No, he had no pain at all. He got it following a cold. The doctor said it happens because of the pressure on the inner year when your noise is blocked.

rosy71 · 09/05/2020 23:21

*inner ear when your nose is blocked!

bookmum08 · 09/05/2020 23:28

I have had this. God it's awful. I however was diagnosed with high blood pressure and now take Ramipril for that and also diagnosed with anxiety and take sertraline . I don't get the spinning now except very rarely. I don't know if it's all connected.

Purplewithred · 09/05/2020 23:32

Labrynthitis or bppv. I’ve had both, with labyrinthitis I felt dizzy when sitting still or lying down, with bppv I felt ok when still but dizzy after moving. Bppv you can do manoeuvres, look them up on YouTube, they do,work. Labyrinthitis sadly just seem to have to wait it out.

Purplewithred · 09/05/2020 23:33

Oh ad sometimes I get dizzy if I’m dehydrated.

Lozz22 · 09/05/2020 23:33

I had the same and mine was an inner ear infection. Funny cos my ear didn't hurt but the Dr said it definitely was cos she could it was inflamed inside. With vertigo I feel dizzy stood, sat or laid down

YesIDoLoveCrisps · 09/05/2020 23:37

I often get this when my hayfever is playing up.

tenlittlecygnets · 09/05/2020 23:38

Labyrinthitis? Dh gets this. The gp can prescribe anti-sickness meds.

Maria53 · 09/05/2020 23:43

Meniere's disease? My friend was diagnosed with it last year.

Comefromaway · 09/05/2020 23:47

It could be labyrithitus or Menieres Disease. The former is usually temporary, the latter a condition you have to learn to live with. There are various treatments that can help (betahistine/exercises etc)
