Does anyone have any suggestions?

I've woken up with a niggly one for the last few days.

Had my eyes tested a few weeks ago so it can't be that.

are you drinking enough and eating regularly?

Do you spend a lot of time at a computer screen?

Is it hormonal?

princessmel · 17/09/2007 13:23

I knew someone would mention the pc. I only come on here when dd is asleep really. Its not Mn inflicted!

I eat but maybe dont drink enough. I did think that last night actually. Just had a glass of squash.

For me it's not drinking enough. I'm terrible about it but having had headaches every day for a week I've made a conscious effort to drink and I feel so much better and the headaches are pretty well gone.

TheArmadillo · 17/09/2007 13:24

Lol at definately not MN inflicted

you need to amek sure you are drinking plenty - 8 glasses of water (or squash) per day. Dehydration can cause headaches.

I'd try that for a couple of days and see if it helps and if not go to dr.

bodiddly · 17/09/2007 13:25

I had a few weeks of that and went to the dr in the end as they were bordering on migraines ... apparently my blood pressure was sky high...might be worth getting it checked!

Charlie999 · 17/09/2007 13:25

Stress gives me dreadful headaches...

binkleandflip · 17/09/2007 13:30

If you have a headache which wont go away when you sleep ie you got to bed with it and wake-up with it you need to get it checked out.

I started having occasional though acutely painful ones (similiar to a brain freeze from eating ice cream) which would last for days and were constantly painful and no pain medication would touch them.

I got checked out and it turns out I suffer from cluster headaches which are pretty rare and thankfully I've not had one for about a year but they are more prevalent in women so worth checking it out.

biglips · 17/09/2007 13:33

same here as ive had headaches since last Wed....with a sore throat in the mornings and a very stuffy nose. Still waiting for the damn cold to come out as been going on for weeks now.

im drinking loads of water and now ive just had a beecham...feel alot better!

or otherwise Stress gives me a battering heavy headache!

biglips · 17/09/2007 13:34

and atm it is affecting my sleep as its pounding all day long. Also my ears feels blocked too. It is a sign of a cold

binkleandflip · 17/09/2007 13:35

biglips, that sounds like sinus trouble?

princessmel · 17/09/2007 13:35

Hmm you're right about it not going away with sleep. Maybe I'll go to doctors. And drink more. Shall I try a few days of drinking lots before I go?

Definately, cant do any harm.

You can tell if you're dehydrated by your wee - it should be pale straw colour - if its darker than that you need to drink more water - TMI I know

Hi, Had a terrible night last night. Headache got worse in the afternoon and I felt terrible by evening. Pounding head and cold and shivery. paracetamol and ibuprofen didn't help.
Went to bed but it lasted all night. dh came with me to take kids to school this morning. He could have gone by himself but ds has been crying going in so I really needed to go.
Went to docs straight after school and she sent me to hospital for tests.
Wanted to rule out viral memningitis and a bleed in the brain
Got to hospital and I had to put on a pink open backed gown and have tests for reflexes etc. and blood tests.
Nothing dodgy infection wise, showed up in the results so they sent me home.
Gave me cocodamol(sp)

PersonalClown · 18/09/2007 18:23

Forgive the personal question but what contraception do you use?
I ask becuause I started having the most awful headaches/migranes. After a lot of tests/changes in diet etc My doc discovered that it was my pill.
It had never made me ill before, she just said sometimes the body starts reacting against it.

binkleandflip · 18/09/2007 18:24

If the cocodamol has little or no effect I would seriously go the doctors and ask about cluster headaches - they do not respond to normal pain killers - I have little wafers that melt on your tongue and if I feel an inkling of one coming on I have to take immediately or it has no effect whatsoever.

Hope you're feeling better in the morn

EricL · 18/09/2007 18:29

Headaches can be caused by a huge range of issues so it is difficult to diagnose you without asking a shed load of questions.

You are doing the right thing in taking medical advice.

Some things that commonly cause them are caffeine, chocolate, red wine, cheese, stress, tiredness, muscular strain/knots in upper back and neck, certain drugs (contraceptives included), high blood pressure, seasonal changes and all manner of physical conditions.

It is an absolute minefield and only one that that can be helped by your doc i'm afraid.

Radley · 18/09/2007 18:31

I;ve always suffered headaches

And found that its because i'm tired, stressed, or not drinking/eating enough.

At minute though I have a splitting headache, but that is due to me having a horrible cold

If you're concerned, keep a diary and pop to see the doctor at the end of the week.

pooka · 18/09/2007 18:34

I went to the docs this morning because have had about a month or 5 weeks of long headaches, with a couple of days in between. Also feel very tired and a bit weepy.
Have been asked to have a blood test. Querying iron levels and so on.
It's getting me down. Then this pm had a sore throat, looked and it seems one of my tonsils is very inflamed. So maybe am brewing something atm.
Will still have the test to get some reassurance.

biglips · 18/09/2007 19:13

hiya

i havent bothered with the docs as i feel so much better after taking the lemsip last night. ive still got the edge of the headache so will take another lemsip soon

princessmel · 18/09/2007 19:23

Thanks everyone. I went to the doctors today. see below

My blood pressure was very low. 90 over 60 I think and dh thinks that could be the reason. The doctor didn't seem too concerned by that though.

I have been worried as ds has been crying at school. He's just started reception, but I can't imagine me worrying about that can make me feel so bad.

I had a week of headaches last week. On Friday It was so bad I thought I was going to throw up. Painkillers didn't touch it .
Woke up Saturday and it had gone. Dh has it now so a bug I think...
