I hate that when you think all is ok and you're about to go to bed and something bad happens out of the blue :((

Stupidly shut my big toe in bifolds. Ran up and down garden for 10 mins. Over two hours ago. Can't sleep for pain. Sorry for info but thin line of blood at base of nail and hurts to bend toe.

:((

Could be. I broke my big toe a couple of summers ago and it was soooooo painful. I went to see my GP and she said "oh it's broken" and that was that - nothing to be done. Healed on its own in a few weeks.

ponchek · 26/04/2020 00:40

Sorry can't post pic as have outing nail varnish ☺️😂

Just this thin line of blood and really quite intense pain. I'd rather have two hours of first phase of labour. Really. At least you get breaks between the contractions 🥺

I broke my big toe years ago when drunk - didn’t even realise til the next day when it was so painful (I was very, very drunk...). A friend took me to hospital but as pp said there’s nothing to be done - I just had to wear sandals for weeks until it got better.

Have you got any painkillers in?

ponchek · 26/04/2020 00:41

I slathered Germolene with local anaesthetic on it but it isn't touching the pain

Maybe something cold would help
I don't know
I guess I just have to get through it :(

Maybe get really really drunk?

ponchek · 26/04/2020 00:46

Wrapped it in a kind of makeshift cold compress

What have you taken in the way of pain relief? I've broken toes before and it's a really horrible kind of pain- with my worst case I needed to alternate ibuprofen and paracetamol for a good few days and tbh I was still really sore for a few weeks after. Lots of ice and pain relief!

ponchek · 26/04/2020 00:47

I think the wine earlier in evening contributed to accident!!

But yes did think of that lol but can't face going downstairs

No chance of someone going to a 24hr pharmacy for you I take it?

ponchek · 26/04/2020 00:49

Haven't taken anything as didn't want it to react with rose 😳

I only had a couple of glasses but still!

I will have to get through night then take them tomorrow. Yes it manages to be sharp like a knife and a constant deep ache at the same time. Like my toe is being cut off 😱

How long has it been since the wine? You should be fine after a couple of hours to take painkillers.

ponchek · 26/04/2020 00:52

No sadly - sort of partner (it's complicated) checked I was still alive then fell asleep on phone. Daughter sleeping like a baby next to me. It's me and the midnight oil!

I did more germolene then wrapped a small towel soaked in cold water round it, and another dry one. The cold feels helpful. :(

ponchek · 26/04/2020 00:53

It's a good three hours since wine - thanks yes then maybe I'll try

Hope it improves - got any frozen peas? An ice pack might help. If you can get a pharmacist or 111 on the phone they might have some actual qualified advice too!

PrimeroseHillAnnie · 26/04/2020 04:19

Gout !

IceBearRocks · 26/04/2020 05:42

FFS take some paracetamol! It's a broken toe .....you will be offered nothing more at hospital.
Tape it to the next toe and keep taking painkillers.

ponchek · 26/04/2020 05:55

It's still hurting and yes heading for the paracetamol stockpile ...... (and no not gout!! 😅)

btw advice for a broken big toe is different to the other toes, in that NHS recommends you get medical advice:-
www.nhs.uk/conditions/broken-toe/

So I'ld give the GP a call tomorrow if I were you

ScissorsBike · 26/04/2020 06:57

A broken toe wouldn't be that sore - you should get it checked out

ponchek · 26/04/2020 07:52

Thanks I'll get it checked.

I fear the nail has been cut through at its base. If so I guess it will take a year to regrow. And scared what happens to the current nail. No they are not removing it!!!! 😭😭😭😭.
