Tingling in hands and feet

Hi all,

For the past week I’ve had tingling in my hands and left foot (more in the fingers and toes). It not as bad as pins and needles but noticeable, although the left foot is worse when sitting down and I will then get pins and needles.

Strangely it started after taking St John’s wort, about 5 days after starting. I’ve stopped the tablets (stopped the tablets last Tuesday).

Do you think it’s linked? I also get prickling when in hot or cold water sometimes.

I thought I was getting carpel tunnel in my hands (suffered horrendously when pregnant and steroid injections worked) and it does have the same feelings so I would assume it’s that but it throws me that it is also in my foot!

I’ve started wearing hand splints at night which is helping as my hands hurt badly at nighttime.

I spoke to a lovely dr a few days ago and he said after lockdown he wants to do nerve conducting tests and also test my thyroid and b12! As we are all unsure when lockdown will end and I am going out of my mind thinking it’s MS or something awful and googling constantly, I’ve ordered a thriva test to see if it’s linked to b12, thyroid, diabetes etc.

Has anyone else experienced something similar?

To note for the past month I’ve been suffering badly with anxiety (not low moods just anxious especially with health or silly things like being stuck in traffic)!

Thanks so much - Char x

I had bad muscle twitches too. That was definitely anxiety related, and actually took a while to go even after anxiety subsided. But I haven't noticed them for a while now

Northernsoullover · 28/04/2020 19:42

I had this but mine was caused by drinking alcohol. I was definitely drinking more than was healthy but it was still a 'socially acceptable' amount. I'm not for one minute suggesting anyone is overdrinking. Just sharing my experience Wink

My mum thinks it neck and anxiety related, who knows. It makes me feel so much better that I’m not alone in this.

I wonder what yours was but brilliant is disappeared for you. Deep down my sensible head says the muscle twitches etc are anxiety related as it does strange things to your body but when you put symptoms into google, it comes up with awful things and when you health anxiety projects everything! Thank you for being kind x

I’m sure most people are drinking more during the lock down hehe! I stopped drinking for a few days to see if it helped and I only ever have one or two glasses a night or every other night, sometimes go days without drinking! X

@Northernsoullover how did you work out it was this and has it now stopped?!

inkworks273 · 27/10/2020 07:53

Did you every get to the bottom of this @Misscbu17?

Karystos · 30/12/2020 02:54

I was wondering if the tingling ever resolved or if you found out why you had it. I am having the exact same symptoms and have been so anxious why. Waiting on an MRI and a nerve test. So worried it’s MS or something else bad.

Karystos · 30/12/2020 02:56

I have the same symptoms and I have health anxiety. Did it resolve for you?

Athrawes · 30/12/2020 03:08

Most likely - B12 deficiency
Least likely - anything horrible that Google says

Misscbu17 · 07/01/2021 11:12

Hi all,

Just to update that mine did indeed stop. I found out I had Anaemia and also started a low dose of citalipram - all symptoms I was experiencing disappeared! Low iron and anxiety can do some really horrendous things to your body xx

I know this thread is a year old, but if the op or anyone is still around I’d love to get an update.

My right lower leg started tingling when I went on adhd medication and had a Raynauds type reaction. I stopped meds but unfortunately leg has remained. MRI normal - apart from neck problems.

I pinched a nerve in my neck at the weekend and I have lost feelings in my hands and developed burning mouth syndrome. Going to see osteopath, but does anyone have any words of comfort? I’m 50 btw.

@Misscbu17 just seen you did reply. Will try and see if that works.
