teeth sealed?? anyones child had it?

Is it safe? My dd who is neraly 13 is due to have her fissures sealed??
Does this expose her to a lot of flouride?
Is it worth having done.

definitely worth having it done although younger than your dd

I had it done in my early teens, am now 26 no ill effects here and no fillings either......

My odest had it done a couple of eyars ago, aged about 10 or 11 I think. Hopefully jasper will see this and be able to give you more info.

Definitely worth it. They mostly do it when molars have deep crevices in the top surface which will be difficult to keep clean so more likely to decay - this way that won't happen.

ds had it done last year, aged 8 and dd will too next year. Both seem to have weak teeth and are prone to cavities despite brushing, but since ds had his sealed, he has had no problems.

My DS had it done last year when he was 8 but only because he was having other things done in the first place. No problems so far as I'm aware. Why the worry about fluoride?

Both my boys (11 and 8) have had this done. from what I undestand it's a type of white filling that the dentist uses to "fill" the deep crevices that children can find so hard to keep clean. No fluoride used as far as I know.

I had this one when I was around your dd's age. I think it is well worth it. I have had one or two fillings (I assume in the non sealed teeth!)

wish id had it done, ds1 and 2 will definetly be having them when thier 2nd teeth come through.

me and my sister both had it done, i'm 23 now, she's 21 and no fillings for either of us.

My stepdaughter had it done much younger and has no fillings.

I had mine done when I was at primary school, am now 33 and dentist is constantly amazed at how well they've lasted.

I too had it done in my early teens. At the time I still had 2 milk teeth (!) and the only fillings I have are in the adult teeth that grew where those milk teeth fell out.

My dd1 had it done as a child and then again several years later as the sealant can wear off. She is now 31 and has never had any fillings.

Thanks for all the replies.

The reason teh dentist has waited so long is because she still had erupting molars everytime she went to see her.

What do they use to seal? Thought it might be a flouride substance hence the caution.
Don't know why but my mum has always been anti excess flouride other than natural amounts in water, although I do use a flouride toothpaste.

Will definately get dd's teeth done as she's filling free and would like her to stay that way.

Wish I could have benefited from this when I was a kid!
