I tried to do this when DS1 was tiny but I just couldn't.
it's common practise in Africa, apparently.

I have also been recommended by a stranger to chew food for them and feed it mouth to mouth... In bloody Crouch End!

I was told to do that too, so, after taking a few deep breaths, I went for it!

I think it was a case of baby being hungry, no food available except sandwich.

Can't imagine any scenario when sucking snot out of nose will be life or death.

Here in Hungary they use something called and "orszivo porszivo" which is a thing you connect to hoover to suck out snot!!! Works too!
