Farts and poo smell like my dog!

I've Googled this and found a few people asking the same question but no answers.

I've always had dogs but never had this happen before and wonder if anyone has any idea what is going on.

Last summer a friend brought her dog round (Staffie) and she said that she fed it a raw diet and one of the good things was that it meant the dog "didn't have that doggie smell, it hardly smelled at all".

I didn't say anything but I thought her dog smelled really strongly and that it was an odd smell, not like any dog I had come across before.

A couple of months later my dog died and I re-homed a new dog, a Jack Russell Terrier about seven years old. The JRT smelled like my friend's Staffie but not so strong and she was not on a raw diet like the Staffie.

After just a few days I noticed that my farts and poo were smelling like the JRT!

She was off her food and I tried all sorts of different foods, eventually tried a raw diet and she liked that but this smell thing with me started before I started her on the raw diet and when she already smelt like the Staffie.

I have had the JRT now for about six months and my farts and poo still smell like her.

I can only think that there is some sort of dog-gut microbiome that I have ingested.

Has anyone else every come across this or have any ideas?

I looked in the "Doghouse" part of Mumsnet but there were no questions like this so I thought I might have more luck in "General Health".

It does not seem healthy to me that my farts and poo should smell like my dog Confused

Here wondering the same thing. I noticed my poo changed smells when I dated a girl with two dogs. It definitely changed. Everyone knows their own smell. Thought it was just weird and maybe in my head. After we broke up after about two years I guess i hadn't paid attention if it ever changed back and maybe it was just the new norm. Couple years go by and I date another girl with two different dogs. And after a month or two I notice my gas and poos smell like her dogs now... a different smell. A Noticeable change. Hers also smell similar to the dogs. She's kissing the dogs, the dogs sleep with us, we're obviously not french kissing the pups but they lick arms, hands, face. Me and the gf obviously kiss and are intimate. It's got to be bacteria gut biome related. So why arent there more people asking these questions and where are the answers from medical professionals? There has to be a correlation. The both sets of dogs have eaten different dog foods. Not raw diets. No scraps. Usually I've noticed dogs on raw diets smell more like human poop. This is the other way around and it baffles me because we're obviously not eating kibble lol

I'm glad I'm not going crazy...I just recently took in a cat who has very strong smelling poos and was told cats always have stinky poos compared to dogs. Great. That makes sense. But then my dog started eating poos from the litter box (which is also very normal apparently my to my horror) and shortly after, I noticed her poos smelled just as foul and strong.

I assumed it was just because she ate some of the cat poo so therefore, it would obviously smell similar, but I've since gotten a litter box with a top entry and my dog hasn't eaten any more. But her poo still smells bad months later. And more recently, within the past month, I noticed MY poo started smelling strongly! I do wash my hands very well after scooping or picking up my dog's poo, but I also kiss my pup on the head, and she sleeps in my bed, so I'm sure I could've picked something up regardless of my hygiene...

I have a very strong sense of smell, so I'm not sure if it's just something those of us with "super smellers" can detect, or if everyone can but they just don't notice it as much? I'm sure it has to happen frequently if it's even a thing, because I wash my hands more than anyone I know, and all my friends and family also kiss their pets on the head or even the mouth! I'm just surprised there's no official answers or very many discussions...
