9 mo old poos in bath

I have been bathing my 2 DDs together, but recently DD2 poos in the bath! Has anyone had this problem? Is there any way to avoid this? I am giving her tea at the same time as usual and also giving her bath at the same time - usually around 8:30pm, can't wait any longer as she is obviously tired and cranky by then. Any advice?

If she is an evening poo-er, is there any way you can start doing bathtime in the morning? (I appreciate that you may like it as part of the bedtime routine.)

My youngest is a morning poo-er, and so we have only had this problem in the evening bath a couple of times. It is gross though, and I feel very sorry for my 5 year old!

dd did that at exactly the same age. It was a phase. It happened a few times over the course a few months, and then never happened again.

Thanks for the response, KATG. Unfortunately, DD2 is both a morning and an evening pooer. In fact, she poos nearly all day like 5 times a day.

I don't think there's anything you can do then, other than bathe them separately.

Expatkat, DD1 never did this, so it really surprises me when suddenly I see a brownie floating in the water. Have to scoop it up and flush it before DD2 grabs it and puts it in her mouth! Sorry to be so graphic. Anyway, DD2 is doing this nearly every night - at least this week and last week!!

Mine used to do this too - in fact, this is really gross, but he once passed a raisin, picked it up and tried to eat it! (boy, did I move fast...) Didn't think there was anything I could do about it, tbh. Apart from throw lots of bleach at the bath after he'd been in! Hasn't done it for a while now, though (is nearly 15 mos... think it stopped a couple of months ago...)

one practical solution - buy a cheap sieve to make poop-scooping easier. We haven't had to use ours for ages! (although ds only gets a bath twice a week now - he hates it.)

My ds did this once & it was really horrible. A childless friend was round at the time & she said seeing it had put her biological clock back several years... Sorry, no helpful suggestions though.

have you checked her diet... i know there is no rhyme or reason to pooing but 5 times a day is quite often.

my ds did really yucky poos at one time and it was because i was giving him weetabix and then he was drinking juice... the weetabix was just too strong for his tummy at that time, but he didnt really like baby cereals. gawd, i cant remember what i did give him in the end... rusks probably.

DD1 used to. DD2's done it once. Both frequent pooers too - dd2 has been known to poo five times in a day, although that's rare and frankly I think it's just their metabolism, quick throughput and all that. They both eat like horses and dd1 in particular is quite slight.

ds 1 has never done this, but ds 2 did. had a few emergency bath evacuations. Luckily he only did it a few times (including once in swimming pool!. with a bit of luck your on's phase will 'pass' quickly too

Ernest, I do hope this is just a phase! Rosies, I asked the doc about this, and he said as long as it is not diarrhea, then she is ok. My sister thinks that she is not finishing her poo - so what I call 5 poos is really just 2 poos, but broken into 5 parts, IYSWIM. Thank you for your advice all. I won't bore you all with the tedious system I have for cleaning it all up. All I can say is that it's a good thing the bath tub is next to the toilet, and I'm a fast scooper - use a little plastic shovel. Yuck.

Almost40, my 9 month old is a "1 in the evening, 1 in the morning" kind of guy. I can almost set my watch by him. Last week he produced one in the bath which took us both by surprise . Now I've taken to sitting him on his potty with some toys before bath time and 9/10 times he does one in it which I make a big fuss over. Maybe take this opportunity to do some early potty training???

My 7 year old still occasionally does it - usually when she's farted and 'follows through' as it were.

Oh yes - both of ours have done it at various stages. DS is in one of these at the moment but there again he's only 17 months - old enough to grunt at me to tell me there's some new bath toy in the bath, although DD (5) is usually screaming by that stage!!
The way I see it is that it's a little bit of pooh in a lot of water and once I've manually scooped (yum, yum) I'm not going to lose sleep over a tiny bit. Incidentally they both wee in the bath - disgusting I know to some, but I think that they may have inherited that from their mother

OK, just gonna check now, my MIL went mad the other day, because when DS wee's in the bath i don't run the water away and start a new bath.

Am i being gross, or is she over-reacting?

dd went through a phase of doing this on and off ..... even though she was being bathed at the usual time etc... just got the pooper scooper out and then ran disinfectant in the bath after she was out.....can't remember how old she was when she did it though

just grew out of it.....

In the past I've heard that it is quite natural because the warm bath water relaxes ALL the muscles.
Not very pleasant- but if you believe that at least you can say"it's quite natural!"
