2 of my finger are starting to turn in and I can no longer straighten them, it really hurts, has anyone any experience of this?

Not sure it is the same thing, but my MIL had the finger bending over bit. Don't think she was in pain, but in the end her next finger started to bend over and she couldn't function, i.e. carry things. She had an operation that fixed it and I think she was in plaster for a short while. My husband also has a nodule on the palm of his hand that is pulling his little finger over and it is apparently the same thing. His isn't painful and doesn't effect his function at the moment. I agree that I don't see what physiotherapy could do and I know that this wasn't suggested for my MIL so maybe it was something different. Hope you get it sorted soon.

My grandmother and dad both had this it was diagnosed as dupuyrtren's contracture (although niether had diabetes/epilepsy or alcoholism). I have it in the little finger of both hands although its never progressed. They operated on my dad when his started to progress:

Certainly sounds like Dupuytrens contracture but I didnt think it caused any pain. Mine is painless but sometimes the palm of my hand gets very itchy. Cant have the op yet because fingers are not bent enough.

i don't remember my dad being in pain either. Although it was (and still is) itchy. I remember him being bandaged rather than in plaster- but it was a long time ago

Definitely sounds like dupuytren's. Another real tell tale sign is the puckering of the skin on the palm between the ring/ 5th finger and the wrist. Cause is unknown, unlikely to be related to your previous problem. The rate of progession varies between patients for no obvious reason. Can be very painful or not at all. Can end up in very simple surgery to release the connective tissue in the palm and thus the tendons operating those fingers. Physio can help to stretch it out if the condition is non- aggressive. Hope taht helps.

have you had any blood tests done? Hemochromatosis (sp?) can cause distortion of the fingers. It is all to do with too much iron in the blood.

Your little finger looks just like mine, but my next finger isn't curling, I'd ask for a referral to the hand clinic.

Dupuytren's Contracture is directly linked to people of Scandinavian extraction - ie, in a British context, the Vikings.

Do you know anything of your family history?

Well, Aims (sorry to have left your post unanswered for so long), I think you need to go back to the doctor and ask for a specific look into d.contracture. If you're of northern British descent, there's every likelihood that your ancestors were from Scandinavia.

It is an hereditary condition.

I'm no expert, but I had a male friend with this condition, and in it's severest form, it can be unpleasant.

Be upfront with your GP. Sometimes, they're unwilling to look into specifics unless you provide them with one.

in the meantime, i would start massaging the palm of your hand and trying to stretch the fingers out with the other hand (not at the same time). Dont bounce or push too far into pain and it will be perfectly safe. (am physio)

it will be sore to begin with, but will get easier. If it doesn't i would leave it until you see the physio and they can do a full examination
