What the hell is wrong with my lower back and left hip?

It has been AGONY for well over 2 weeks now - and I don't know what I have done to it. The pain seems to be getting worse, and is at it's most painful when I am sitting on a chair

What is it and how can I make it go away?

trapped nerve?

EscapeFrom · 08/09/2007 16:16

I have been contorting myself into various faux-yogic positions in order to untrap the nerve, ifit is a nerve, but it hasn't worked.

rthe only thing that workded was Ibuprofen, but I hate taking it.

i get a lot of trapped nerves from lifting ds2 and his wheelchair

or used to until i went to a back school and they taught me some exercises to strengthen my core muscles

but before that id hobble to the gp and they would prescribe valium as the muscle has gone into spasm, and needs to be relaxed to untrap the nerve

if it is a trapped nerve

have you been to teh gp?

i would pop down if i were you

You have a classic case of Mumsnet Bumcheek - I had this last week, lower back was killing me and my hip, ooooh the pain, I didn't know what to do with myself.

Decided it's because I sit badly whilst MNing and cross my legs or sit on one leg or lean forward for hours reading in the evenings when it can get really juicy on here!

Step away from the PC!

at kbear!

Are you implying that I spend long enough sat in this chair to physically injure myself! The very cheek! The very suggestion! The damnable accuracy....

I have been on here a lot less, this week, as it hurts so much when I do. I am flitting on and off between posts, and have missed so much.

Lou, I did wonder if it was perhaps time to go to the Gp ... but I hate going, as 'back pain' and 'depression' and the like looks so unemployable, yet are all over my bloody medical file, and I am still looking for a job!

Not sure if what I had was the same but it sounds similar. Is it painful when you drive too? It was excrutiating when I used the clutch.

I did go to the GP who said, in my case, it was muscular and referred me for physio. He also prescribed diclofenac as the ibuprofen had stopped working.

I did go to see an osteopath whilst waiting my referral as I had a good idea what was causing it - twisting awkwardly and standing on one leg whilst putting ds in his car seat.

The osteopath worked wonders and gave me some core stability excercises to do. I wasn't bending/lifting properly. It still hadn't gone by the time the physio came through and she was a marvel - I had to lie on my right side with left leg bent whilst she drove her elbow into my hip to release the muscle. Has been fine since and if I do get a little twinge I do the excercises I was given and it gets rid of it.

Hope you get it sorted.
