Does anyone have my particular back problem?

It feels fine in the day but at night I wake up at 1amish and it is really stiff and apinful no matter what position I am in.
I know it's not the mattress as we had that changed recently and my back ached on the old one and the new one.
In the morning it is really painful when I get up but after about an hour of moving around it feels ok again.
I went to the gp and she said to take painkillers and if that doesn't help she'll refer me to physio but I've no idea how i'll manage to go to that when Ive got 2 small children.
She also suggested limiting lifting heavy objects but with a 3 and 1 year old that's not exactly realistic
Anyone had similar?

Hi LJ,

I had a lot of lower back problems after having my 2, and visited a chiropractor which helped, but the one thing that really helped was doing some Pilates exercises to develop the "core" muscles, i.e. your stomach and lower back muscles which help to hold your spine erect.

I joined a class, but you can get dvd's or books fairly easily.

I have a similar problem with my back and hips.

I found a combination of seeing an osteopath and joining a gym to improve my mucle tone really helped.
