Hello

If you have an MRI and it turns out to be bad news, how long would it be before they contact you?

I had an MRI of my head and neck and it took about three weeks to get the results in a letter (nothing to worry about in the end). That was a scan requested as 'urgent' by my GP. Is it your own scan you're concerned about?

Hello

No, it's my daughter.

She has prominent optic discs. She has been seen 4 times at the eye clinic since November and they can't see any swelling coming from the brain but have decided to do an MRI.

TBH, it's been a nightmare.

I think ours was a couple of weeks. It wasn't anything immediately life threatening though so I'd imagine a day or two max if it was. Radiologist to write report and consultant to read it etc.

NeverKnewThat · 10/03/2020 22:41

I was called back the same day.

AlunWynsKnee · 10/03/2020 22:46

I had my results back in about 72 hours with bad news.

My daughter had a mass seen on MRI. We were phoned the same night. Detailed discussion the next day. I knew anyway something was wrong as they’d stopped the scan halfway through to cannulate and give contrast which they hadn’t planned to and staff don’t stick needles in a 6 year old without warning without a very good reason.
I hope all ok Flowers

We waited about 10 mins for my daughters results (emergency scan after a thunderclap headache an hour previously)

Hi

Thank you for the replies.

We had an eye clinic appointment today - one of the ventricles in her brain is narrow and she will need to go to Kings for a shunt. She has hydrocephalus.

I'm truly devastated. x

Sending you hugs. Haven’t experienced hydrocephalus but I know the sense of the bottom dropping out of your world - my daughter’s mass turned out to be cancer.
I hope treatment goes smoothly, I know a few kids with shunts doing brilliantly

@chinateapot

Thank you.

I'm so sorry to hear that about your little one. I hope she is doing well.

Hello, I am sorry you are going through this. I have experience with hydrocephalus and we always had our results within 48 hours for good and other results. My child had their hydro diagnosis as a baby I was devastated but had wonderful support from the Shine charity and the online support groups who are amazing.
We take it a day at a time but my child has not been held back. If I can help please message me Thanks

chinateapot · 11/03/2020 19:18

@boble1 she is thank you. Just waiting for scan results now but hopefully all should be good.
How old is your daughter? Just take things one day at a time for now- that’s all you need to do.

boble1 · 11/03/2020 20:04

@chinateapot

Oh, that's wonderful. Fingers crossed for the results.

My daughter is 12.

I've got a headache now from all the stress today. I'm still in disbelief.

xx
